Why wasn't he upfront with you in the first place? Wasn't this the guy you knew since intermediate school?
Where are the license plates?
Where's the registration?
Repo guys can do a LOT of damage to a car. Their thing is to get the car out of the area as fast as they can, no matter what - they have no idea if an owner is gonna come out with a gun or a killer dog. I was there when they cut the steering under the car to straighten the wheels so they can get it on the bed. I also witnessed them playing tug of war (owner was in it trying to drive it off while it was being dragged away - lifted by the rear, it was a FWD)
I hope you got a signed receipt from him along with the bill of sale with the $ amount, the VIN and such.

I guess you can't trust long time friends these, I 've known him to be a good person since 6th grade and have watched him sell his other cars to other friends of mine

In my state it doesn't matter where the registration is (however his state's registration is in the car) it matters where the title is, and that's at toyota right now. They are going to send it to him, which he will then sign and send it to me. Yeah, that's the idea.

For now I'm just hoping that the bank calls off the dogs - because I only can leave it at this place until Tuesday at the latest. If they can't straighten **** out on Monday then I'll be searching for another place to park it..
One nice thing about Toyota financial serv. is that if you call up they offer a button to push if you are a "third party"
And while they will not tell me specifics of my friends address or details about his payoff amount, they will tell me if the car is up for repo and how many months it's owed back. It's pretty clear that they have this setup for people like me who need to hear the REAL truth from the company.

dont worry so much, just park it at a friends house one whos NOT CLOSE TO YOUR HOUSE. the repo guys arent gonna go driving around looking for a car without a address~
