Let's see... You cut his asking price by 1000, made out the check to Lexus (or Toyota FS) for 17.5k, and he mailed it to them, and that just coincidentally matched EXACTLY what he owed on it? He has the title, and they will release their lien on the car, and mail him a clear title in his name? Then, he, living in another state, might sign it over to you, if he remembers to do that before he moves to another state...etc., etc.?

I talked to the lexus agent with him on the the phone, his payoff was 17,490.21

I fully expect him to mail me the title (with his signature) and have it in my hand by thursday (2 days for them to mail it to him and then him to send it to me UPS ground, which will be overnight) at the latest. If that doesn't happen my families lawyer will take over.
I did the same thing...i paid the guys loan off and a couple of weeks later he mailed me the title. we had a bill of sale with a witness tho, hopefully u guys had some written agreement drawn out

If anything I have an email where I wrote out exactly what I'm paying and what I'm getting and he responded "Yes that's correct, the car comes with (insert stuff here) and I'll bring it to you by thursday"
