Default My new (to me) IS250! One big problem.. it's about to be Repo'd !!LOL

Deal went down just fine, good friend, car is very nice condition plenty fast enough, etc...

So my friend (the seller) is arguing something out on the phone with lexus while I'm sitting here. He faxes them a copy of the check and gives them the bank phone number from where the check was written. That's odd never heard of that.

We go to Fedex and he overnights them the check.

He calls me like 1 hour later and goes "listen, I just got a call from lexus, is there anywhere you can hide the car till Monday? They are looking for the car. They aren't open tomorrow so I guess that means they won't get the check till Monday"

<big *** sighhhhh from me>

Yes I can hide the car.

Friend says they started looking for it today.

Some questions:

- If I just block the car in with the FIVE other cars in my driveway is it safe?
I was just on the phone with lexus about this and even though they called my bank and verified that a check was cut, apparently they cannot recall the repo guys until they have a check in their hands. It was a certified bank check.

- If I really have to I'll move the car, but the only locations I can do that to is work or relatives homes.. I don't think that'll be much good. What do you guys think?

According to who I talked to at lexus this wouldn't be a big deal if they were open tomorrow, but of course they aren't.

What do you think? How long overdue is this guy for a car to be repo'd ?

ha, well the other problem is it's not registered obviously, I don't have the title just yet. tryin to think of a place that I can park it but I really don't want to put a car that might have some drama attached to it at any of my family or friends houses.

and yes. ROFL, no wonder he took the 1000 less then he was asking so fast.

I shoulda dropped it 2000

Yeah, I just talked to him while I was making this post.

Asked him when they officially started looking for it- Today, confirmed by the lexus guy.

The actual lexus guy was the one who told us to just hide it somewhere.

Wow that sounds exciting! Lol. Put it in a garage somewhere till its all good. If you don't tell anyone where it is then the repo people won't kno where it is so there is no worry.

Where is that guy who got his IS repod LoL

I'm off to go find some Repomen forums!

I just read that they don't take the car till the payment is 4 months late. I straight up asked my friend how many months he's late and it's 3.

Dude will owe me some drinks after this is over. Oh well I still got a great car for 17.5

IF I can hold on to it!

if you have a receipt that you paid for everything, thats all you need to show them if they come to repo the car. they can verify it.

The only thing I have is a signed bill of sale. No title yet as the bank still has it.

From what I've read - there's something called breach of the peace. Where I can order them to get off my property.

I can park this thing 3 cars deep at night, with concrete on one side and a boat + 2 jetskis on the other.

I also have a driveway alarm which I can set to high.

I've sent out two SOS messages to two friends. We'll see what happens. For now I'm not too worried.

I shoulda said 15k. lol

If you google search purchasing a car from a private seller, the first thing it will say is make sure you get the title at the exact time money is exchanged. Obviously, that's not always possible (like when there is a lien involved), but a bill of sale is really only a stop gap measure until you get the title.

Right now, to be frank, you don't own the car...and having a friend that did some repo'ing back in the day...I don't think a bill of sale will stop the repo from happening (as this type of "documentation" has been used several times to try and delay the repo (i.e. re-hide a car)).

Since repo-men often work off commission, I would definitely hide it in a garage, and then get your hands on the title as soon as possible.

...just my two cents...the rules may be different where you live ;-)

I'm working on that.

I do have a friend who has agreed to let me park it at his place - and there's NO WAY they'd find it there.

His place + a car cover. Would never find it.
