side molding protection
I know that it is not the most desireable mod but there are just too many people out there that have no respect for their automobiles or others!!! has anyone purchased or installed side protection and if so any pictures or reccommendations on vendors would be grately appreciated.thanks.

I think bodyside moldings would be much more noticable than a ding or two. Also, bodyside moldings would lower the value of your car, as most people believe them to be eyesores.

as much as i'd like to believe these side moldings do protect, it'd be hard to prevent all types of dings and scratches and stuff like that. that being said, we did put moldings on our daily drivers ('10 corolla, '11 avalon), and thought it'll prevent shopping carts from ramming into the side of our cars, which has been the case numerous occassions from lazy people who can't walk their cart over to the "return shopping carts here" area. it really can't prevent from any harm done below or above the molding area (raised trucks, higher street curbs, etc.)
i see in the pic the owner decided to put moldings on the front bumper as well, which he/she should've installed it slightly lower, as the area upon first impact will be about an inch below where it was actually placed.

you don't need side moldings, the other persons car door will never hit you where your molding is UNLESS you put like 4 levels of molding down the side of your car

The photo car looks terrible. There's nothing more going on there than the disease of having to add on an item every few feet. Mudflaps, fender flare guards, door edge guards, pinstriping, bodyside, bodyfront, and bodyrear moldings. It's pack-rat syndrome or paranoia, but for cars.
