Default Any DIY instructions for Steering Wheel Swap

Hi Everyone,

If I keep this up, going to have to take a "Second out" for the House LOL.
Just ordered a LFA style (flat bottom) steering wheel from LEXTUNERS. Anyone have any tips or written instructions in How to perform the swap. I have seen the YOUTUBE video from Sewell. Just to much info for me to remember. I thank you in advance for any and all comments. (except for the pain in the a$$ one) LOL

Also do a search for people who have swapped their steering dampers. That will get you most of the way there.

It is not a difficult project at all if you have any DIY ability.

I would suggest if you're considering purchasing the IS-F steering damper to install it at the same time. That's what I did. Sewell's got it.

It's pretty simple. Here are a few pointers though:

1. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL before you start.
2. Make sure you park with your wheels straight, and obviously put the new steering wheel on straight.
3. Be gentle when removing the air bag (one of the first steps) - 3 wires are attached so if you yank it out you can accidentally cause damage.
4. After removing the 19mm bolt that holds the steering wheel to the column, pull back on the wheel using your knees (so you don't smack yourself in the face).
5. Maybe it's just me, but all the screws seem to strip easily, especially the Torx ones. Be careful with how hard you torque.

Not to thread jack but does anyone know how to remove the spiral cable assembly after you take off the steering wheel?

Alright....thanks Brociouz for the additional info. And Sffd103- took your advise & ordered the steering dampner. Also, thanks everyone else with your inputs. Parts are on order. Did received my GFX front Lip today from sewell. Debating if going to install. I truely like the WALD kit, front, rear, and sides. Just don't like the price. I know if I go through and purchase the WALD Kit I will be paying for it in ways you single guys can't imagine.

Happy wife-Happy Life.....Happy wife-Happy Life.....And Lord knows she won't be to happy which in turn-comes back to me

By day, I'm a divorce lawyer, by night a marriage counselor.

So I'll put my hat on as a marriage counselor first. BUY IT!!! You only live once, and she has to understand, it's your passion. I'm not a financial expert, but I know enough that a couple making over $150k+ a year, and have extra savings (after monthly bills are paid) of $1,500+/month; spending $3k-4k/year on your passion is fair and healthy in a marriage. Of course, this deal applies to your wife as well. You guys will have to give and take, right. This year you get to spend $4k on mods, next year your wife can spend $4k on clothes/bag.

Now I'll put my hat on as a divorce lawyer. If you are spending more than what you are making, moreover, a car is not an investment (as we all know), please contact me. I can represent you in court, and I'll make sure you get to keep your Lexus.

I know you are being sarcastic. And I don't want to derail the topic.

First of, I hope you are not married. If you are NEVER use the word "rid" of wife in a sentence on paper/ internet/landline. If you want a divorce, ever thought of just telling her?
