carbon build up dealer fix... WTF!
So I have a friend that works at a local dealership and we were talking about the carbon build up issue. He told me that with the cars not under warranty that don't qualify for the top engine clean out, what they do is run the engine till it gets warm then drop it in nuetral rev it up and redline the rpm's for a couple minutes to try and burn it off. Not sure about anyone else, but that's one reason I don't let anyone touch my car.

That's one way to ruin a car. Redlining it to clean out carbon build up. This dealership sounds like the Quick Lube of the dealerships. That's some shoty service! Redlining in neutral isn't going to help it go away.
That let's you know what really goes on in the service garage.

Given that octane is simply a measure of resistance to detonation (and the car should already not be detonating with 91, since that's what it's programmed for) and that octane has no inherent "cleaning" properties it's a fairly silly suggestion.
Further, if the issue really comes from the intake valves, the fuel never touches those (which is why this doesn't happen on the 350)... so the suggestion to make a fuel change is even sillier.
