If your don't have your CEL(check engine light) on, then your engine is not running "rich". Which is a good thing. The best advice I can give you is take it to the dealer if you think it could be something serious or, get a second opinion like a mech you trust, and go from there. Good luck.

thats about right. i smell it the most when i stop at red light or something after gunning it. I talk to a mech. that works at toyota this morning and he said it might be just the exaust coming back up in the cabin after a hard run. he also said try to use different gas at a different station to see if that helps.

First, does synthetic oil have a bad smell? No, never what you've described.
What you smell is sulfur dioxide and it's common with catalytic converters. There are LSBs about this. It really depends on the sulfur content in your fuel. Less sulfur, less smell. I wouldn't worry about it, but I also wouldn't try to breathe it in. Sulfur dioxide turns into sulfuric acid with just a little bit of water very quickly (SO2+H2O > H2SO3+O > H2SO4) which means sulfur dioxide in your lungs will form sulfuric acid in your lungs and burn you.
