Does Synthetic Oil have a Bad Smell?
So this isn't the first time but I have noticed when I gun it I smell and odor. Some people are saying its the exhaust and some people say it might synthetic oil burning. I use mobil 1 synthetic and most expensive gas. So question is does anyone have a similar experience? I mean sometimes it smells like rotten eggs! lol

I've never had any kind of smell with synthetic oil and all of my high performance cars use it.
I could be wrong but I believe rotten egg smell means it's running too rich? But then again that could be on cars with carburetors. Please forgive me if I'm wrong...sometimes that muscle car knowledge creeps into the import learning.....

Im running F sport exhaust right now. put that on about 4 months ago. but i have noticed the smell even before that. burning oil might make sense for the smell. i only smell it when i gun it. goes away really quickly though. is this something i should be worried about?

could just be the fuel you are using. change gas stations and see if it helps. the rotten eggs smell comes from sulfur in the gasoline. it starts smelling like that after it hits the catalytic converter. if you're running any additives in the fuel this might cause the smell also.
running rich means your burning too much gas in proportion to the air in your combustion chamber(s). the flipside to that is running lean which means you're burning too little fuel in proportion to the air.
I wouldn't be too worried about it.

oh yeah if your car is still pretty new, it will have a worse rotten egg smell because the catalytic converter is still working pretty efficiently. as it ages it will convert less and you will get less smells.

What I meant by running rich (or what I THOUGHT it meant) was that it means you have more gasoline in the mixture than you should. The gas is not being used to its fullest potential and since it is not being combusted completely, the leftover is going through the exhaust, leaving the smell because its chemical properties have changed due to heat and mixture.

If your don't have your CEL(check engine light) on, then your engine is not running "rich". Which is a good thing. The best advice I can give you is take it to the dealer if you think it could be something serious or, get a second opinion like a mech you trust, and go from there. Good luck.
