Guessing both the tranny and the brakes are bad....

So how were you stationary at the light if your brakes aren't working?

That doesn't sound possible. Was your foot on the accelerator too?

Over a certain speed, putting the car in park will not stop or slow it down.

So, you were stopped at a light and all of the sudden the car started moving, even though your foot was still on the brake?

Sounds very strange...

If your car was stationary and foot on the brake, why would it still accelerate? Unless you meant to stop the car and it was slowing down, and You shifted to park to force it to stop before you hit the car in front of you. Shifting the car to park will not stop a 3000+ lbs car while it's already in motion.

Did you check if the accelerator/gas pedal was caught by the mat? But you would hear the engine rev up...

Very odd, more details from the OP would be helpful. If you were already stopped this is very strange.

As noted the car will ignore P above a couple mph to avoid destroying the transmission (it'll ignore R at speed too for the same reason).

The brakes are a lot stronger than the engine though, so it's impossible for the car to randomly start moving forward unless:

A) something was wrong with the brakes

or

B) You were stopped on some surface where the brakes could not stop the car (ie a sheet of ice or something where the tires had nothing to work against)

Not gonna lie, when i saw that video like a year ago... for a week straight i contemplated trying it while going 30mph... haha. But really, not worth the entertainment/wow factor to heavily damage your car.

I thought the 2010's and newer had the brake override making this highly unlikely.
