This is not what I expected of these vehicle when I bought it. I know every vehicle has its flaws but IMO, this is unacceptable. This reminds me of the 1999-2003 Acura TL transmission problem. Same type of extended warranty. Once the warranty expires, you are on your own.
I've heard of 0 cases of anything actually not working due to this problem

My thoughts exactly.
Maybe if the problem was definitively resolved after the TSIB, I'd highly consider doing the "fix" under warranty, but it doesn't even seem like this is the case.
I'd rather them not tinker with any engine parts if at all possible.
By the way, I don't think you're at any more of a disadvantage than I am buying the first model year of the car. I have a 2009 and I experience the issue as well.

I'm probably going to have to sell my IS if we have a baby since it's really not practical as a family car so i don't envision it being an ongoing problem for me other than the occasional annoying reminder.
