the damage doesn't appear to be too severe, but still, it's quite noticeable till you work on it. hopefully it'll just come out with rubbing compound. it sucks that even though you take good care of your ride and take the proper precautions to making sure nothing bad happens to it, some idiot always gets to it. but i wouldn't park my ride in the middle of two spots. i'll take small dings and dents over some huge and hatred-building key marks all over my car.

buy a tsuna and fusa to ward off the evil that your car is attracting.

If it makes you feel better, someone smashed a cart into my rear bumper at Walmart...

damnnnnnn that ANNOYING, however do this, take a microfiber towel with soap and clean off the area very good, let dry. Use a different Microfiber towel and apply a small amount of paint thinner.. work it gently into each scratch but make sure you dont rub too harsh. Let dry, if all did not come off then resort to a small amount of compound and buff, should go right out. Working at a dealership we do these things on a daily basis.

1. Them things are spensive!
2. I'm hoping the ropes weren't on the car when you got hit.

Also:

Paint thinner is paint thinner, right? Wouldn't that mess up the clear coat and dull it? In essence, aren't you removing the clear coat just a tad?

I'm gonna have to agree with this, you don't want to put paint thinner on your paint. Take it to a good detailer and see if they can buff it out, but you did said its down to the bumper at one spot. Detailer might be able to fix it with touch up paint, which he can then sand and buff to even it out.
