Looking at my window sticker (thanks to a member here!) I don't see anything about limited slip. However the seller swears up and down that it has it!

It's not a deal breaker, but I'd like to know what I'm driving around on...

It had no problem driving up a 20% grade covered in ice today.

Far as I know the 2IS was never offered with an LSD. (In the US anyway).

The IS-F didn't even get one until like it's 3rd year of production.

no IS that I am aware of in the US except for the newer IS-F's.

Lexus documentation suggests there is a limited slip -Torsen - available for 2WD 250s from 2006, but no one here has been able to confirm this. There has never been limited slip for AWD 250's.

Yeah all of the NCF's show that a Torsen LSD was available in the 2IS from 06-08, however I've never seen a car with one, and none of the parts catalogs list one. It's possible another market had one, but I don't think we ever had any here.

On a side note: the diff case/open diff in the IS250 is the same as the IS300, and the side axle stubs in the IS300 were the same between the open/LSD in the IS300, which means that an IS300 Torsen pumpkin should be bolt-in to an IS250. (IS350 has a larger diff).

I just went back and read what the seller told me the car had.

"Jeff it has:
- Slip differencial system"

LoL. I guess that's an oxymoron??

My guess is that he was referring to the centre differential in the transfer case. The transfer case uses a planetary gear type limited slip center differential.

so the car is really 2 wheel drive out of 4 at any time ..... right?

Not really, it's all-wheel-drive. There would potentially be a time when you could get only 2 wheels spinning, if you were on ice or something, but most of the time all 4 wheels are getting at least some torque. If it had LSD, it would definitely give more torque to the wheels with grip, but that doesn't mean it's only got 2 wheel drive really.
