Could it be the IAC valve? A bad IAC valve can cause rpm surges, not saying that it's the issue but if it was the IAC, u'll get a CEL. Also maybe a vaccum hose is loose? Just speculating...

That smell is from spilled oil from when they had your engine open. It is crazy how much of the engine gets taken apart to get to the springs. Once it burns off completely, then the smell will go away. Nothing to worry about.

You may want to see if the valves are seated right. It may need to be adjusted. I had mine done 2 weeks ago and everything seems to be working fine. I'll be going in for the fuel pressure sensor next week. My buddy at Lexus says it'll be a 3 hour job.

I hope you find your problem!

This is true. I had the same issues with smell and after a few weeks of driving the smell is now gone.

OP, please keep us posted. I have the same issue as Peaches79 but after the car is warm the odd rev idling issue is gone.

This is why I won't have the recall done. I'll take the .0069% that one of my springs break rather than have some 18 year old disassemble/reassemble the top half of my engine.

I am still waiting for a call from the dealership. The tech's were all worried, because they said there were no error codes shooting back or CEL's....but they physically saw the problem as I replicated it. They said that they are sure the new springs are stiffer than the old ones, but they have not had this problem happen before. I am glad I was able to replicate the problem, as I mentioned before, I have read posts of people experiencing this after the recall, and most have gotten Lexus Corp involved because there was no remedy. I don't think its the transmission, but the tech originally told me it might be...interesting thing is, he had me put the display mode on gear selection to see what gear the trans was in as I replicated the problem, and sure enough, the ECU was upshifting very strangely. I don't think its a transmission hardware problem, but since these transmissions are computer controlled via pressure lines and sensors, something could be ef'd up during recall process causing delays or incorrect shifting time. I bet you guys anything, there will be a recall or TSB for this valve recall because of this issue. For those of you who haven't experienced this after the recall, what year is your IS350 and what dealer performed the recall....there might be a correlation. Oh also, check your dealer receipt for the recall, does it say "GS350 Valve Kit" or "2GR-FSE Valve Kit"??? Mine says "GS350 Valve Kit" some say "2GR-FSE Valve Kit" and im wondering if this might be a problem as GS350 engines do not perform EXACTLY like IS350's...even though they are the same engines...I think output and numbers are a few off.

It could be the throttle body. there is a chance they take off the throttle body, and the ECU needs to learn when to idle. I had this problem on my old G35, when i took off my throttle body for cleaning. I kind of disconnected the battery and do the reset ECU to reset the idle rpm. The car is like a ghost, it kind of shift itself, and without gas, it can go up to 20 mph. which is pretty creepy. I am able to get out of this status by doing the ECU.

Wait? What gift card? Are you saying Lexus dealer will give me a free GC after doing the recall? Or are you guys referring to $500 GC for people with extended warranty?

Yeah, i too am having the same ideling issues. It only happens when the car is cold . when coming to a complete stop my idle jumpes up to almost 2000 rpm's and bounces up and down after that.

when it warms up it seems to go away.

So should i bring my car in to lexus and have them check it out??

Got a call from Lexus today, and they said that the car is driving normally. They said a "specialist" looked at it, and said it drives normally. I asked to take a test drive with the "specialist" on Monday to confirm. So, I guess we'll have to wait until monday.

Got my car back this evening, and it runs beautifully! Ok, it turned out that the problem was a primary vacuum hose/line running to my F-Sport intake. They replugged it, and reset the ECU overnight to make sure it was clear for new readings. This morning, they tested it, got a free fill up, and when I came to pick it up, it sounded marvelously! I don't know maybe its just me, but it much smoother and quicker now too. I didn't realize a stupid vacuum hose can cause this much problems being at the intake level. Oh well...now just waiting for my $500 Gift card, and Sewell, here I come!

Congrats! Glad everything got straightened out. I imagine that had to be really stressful!
