Hey everybody! I posted this in the audio overview thread, but I have some specific questions I am hoping smoebody here has this setup.
I would like to add an MS-8 to the stock non-ML system, without adding or replacing anything else. Has anybody done this? I know it can be done when you replace the interior speakers, but I dont want to do that right away.
I want to add the MS-8 first, then add the bass (4080 box, 12w6v2, 500/1) later, then upgrade the interiors last. That way, I dont have to spend 3k all at once.
The issue I cant get past, is that it looks like the stock amp outputs 10 channels. That is insane![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Obviously, the MS-8 has only 8 channels. If I am right about the stock amp output, I will have to take the output from the rear channels and amp/cross them over. I dont want to do that, otherwise I would just buy all the components at once.
My thoughts:
Channel 1 - Front Right Mid/Tweet
Channel 2 - Front Right Woofer
Channel 3 - Front Left Mid/Tweet
Channel 4 - Front Left Woofer
Channel 5 - Rear Right Triplet (passive-crossed)
Channel 6 - Rear Left Triplet (passive-crossed)
Channel 7/8 - Sub voice coil 1 and 2.
This would put 18W rms to each output (34W to sub), which is very similar in power to the stock amp. The issue is with channels 5/6. I dont think there will be any way to passive-cross those triplets. It looks to me like the output from the stock amp sends one signal to the woofer, one to the mid/tweet, same as front.
Anybody out there get what I am saying, have any suggestions, input, etc?
Thanks!

I have the MS-8 in my IS350. I can give you feedback on some of your questions, but I'll put up a response later today to your post over on DIYMA (I'm the OP of that DIYMA thread). I'm not on CL much, and the MS-8 hasn't gotten much attention here, plus there's a lot more general MS-8 knowledgeable people over there.

its more like..
front left low, mid, tweeter
front right low, mid, tweeter
rear left low, mid, tweeter
rear right low, mid, tweeter
subwoofer left, right channels
so.. more like at least 14 channels. the reason i say at least is because you need to sum up the signals if you want full range bass. if it makes any difference i'm running the JL cleansweep + 2 summing units + focal speaker components all around + JL 1000/1 + 4080 w/ JL 12W6V2 + JL 300/4 amp
front left low, mid, tweeter
front right low, mid, tweeter
rear left low, mid, tweeter

For a non-ML with NAV, the factory config is like this:
FL woofer
FL mid w/passive tweet
FR woofer
FR mid w/passive tweet
RL woofer
RL mid/passive tweet
RR woofer
RR mid/passive tweet
Sub VC1/VC2
The MS-8 only has 8 inputs, so you'll have to disconnect or reroute two channels if you want to use all speakers.

Those Hertz look good, are you using the 3-way or 2-way components?
Thanks AZ for the clarification. I think it sounds like I will have to replace the rear speakers with a set of 2-way components at a minimum, so that the rear will only take up 2 channels on the ms8. I was hoping to be able to drop in a ms8 alone and still be able to utilize all the stock speakers as-is. Bummer, and it is odd that JBL uses an IS in their videos and implies that the only change is the ms8..
