Default Shifter project

So i was sitting in my car yesterday and i noticed something.. Our shifter area is pretty ugly. The shift **** sits to high, and the plastic looks really cheap.

Has anyone ever modified this area ? Im talking like cutting the shifter down a little bit and putting a leather boot in also.

Attached are two pictures, one of the OEM position, the other of the shift **** where id want it to fit

I think there actually was someone here that lowered theirs and it looked pretty good. I think all they did was buy a shorter shifter.

It would be alittle higher then in the picture, i know what you mean it makes alot of noise when its that low. Really itd be about 3 mm higher then pictured, i dont think it would hit then.

It'll look a bit better. Not sure where you'll put the boot though???

Cutting it lower doesn't sound like a bad idea. I have a lock cutter so i may give this a try

So guys im in the middle of the project ! Took everything apart, im painting the center console trim plate, and the two trim pieces as well. Mine were all screwed up and i figured this would be the perfect time..

I was able to cut the shifter rod with a hacksaw pretty easily, i cut almost all of the threads off but left like 2 mm of it left and i think if i get loctite it should be perfect ! Unfortunately, couldn't find a leather boot anywhere so i have to order one

But the boot shouldnt be a problem to put in, you wont be able to see much of it, but it will look much cleaner then OEM.

I will update in about an hour when i have everything put back together !

Wondering how the leather boot is going to take to being moved back and forth so much. It's not stationary like on a manual.

I think it'll be alright, ill leave extra material under so it has room to move around.

So its done.. It sits pretty good, not a massive change, but just enough to notice. I think it looks much cleaner now.

I suggest this project to everyone, its very simple and looks great.

First shot is of the OEM height, last two are shorter
