I remember when I purchased my IS250 I too was debating between this and a BMW 328xi (AWD was a requirement for me). After much research and test drives I went with the 2is because of the horror stories I've read about BMW maintenance and repair costs. I also think the IS250 looks better.

+1 Yet another reason why I went with Lexus.

i was ready to sign the day i looked. i told BMW that if they couldnt come within 25% of the lexus pmt, then i would get a 250. when they asked what the pmt was for the 250, they literally laughed in my face and said i couldnt even lease a 128 for that price. i walked - completely condenscending. (and the 250 and 328 had the same sticker value too).
on a further note, i say **** it, get BMW quotes before you waste time test driving, cross shopping, and reading consumer reports. because depending on your needs, and your location, a quote from your local BMW dealership may make the decision to go lexus a very easy one. you wont even need to begin to trouble yourself with the thought of reliability factors, etc. etc.

Toyota doesn't exactly have a bad reputation when it comes to quality.

Lexus is Toyota's luxury brand, as is Infiniti = Nissan, and Acura = Honda, so naturally parts are going to be manufactured by the main company. Just because its manufactured by Toyota doesn't necessarily mean you're getting the exact same part that's in a Corolla.

Lamborghini = VW, and yes, you fill find Jetta buttons on the Gallardo dash.

guess it has come to a point in the automotive world that you should accept these things and not use the whole "parent company" argument to discount a car. they know what they are doing, and parts bin stuff found in a car is generally offset by bigger development costs for things that actually matter.

Here is my logic for not getting a 328i
IS250 is way cheaper (buying new anyways, buying used they are probaably similiar)
IS250 & 328i are not that far off speedwise
the 328i eats more gas (possible as much as a IS350?)
for the price of a 328i you can get a much faster IS350
and then you have your regular reliability issues with bmw vs a toyota

your only other option for bmw is getting a 335i which is the most expensive out of the 4 i have mentioned but if you have the money go for it

I agree with many people here - from what I heard - lexus has better quality. Plus bimmers are too common - they are everywhere. And I agree - you get much more option-wise with Lexus for the price as compared to BMW where they charge you for every little option

Totally not getting a 335I ..its totally a nightmare with the HPFP problem....it's either i m gonna ended up with IS350 or 328I coupe...problem is im looking into coupes...not sedan..if sedan i will choose IS350 but the is350 coupe doesnt look that right as he 328I

^^^ Are you planning on buying a new 328, if so that comes pretty close to IS350 pricing. I would get a IS350 since it is a higher class than 328. It would meet your requirement in terms of speed, and it will eat a 328 all day at a drag strip.

Handling wise, BMW 3 Series can kill a lot of cars out there including Lexus. They are pretty much known for their handling.

If you want a coupe and you're going by looks, then a 328i coupe definitely looks better IMO.

another advantage for 328i over IS250 is 328i will carry the last of BMW's famed NA inline 6 cylinder engine. the new 3 series will be featuring a turbo 4 and a turbo 6 according to reports. that inline 6 motor is legendary and it is probably bullet proof by now in terms of reliability.

BMW will nickels and dimes you for the rest of the owner ship if it already out of warranty, IS250 is dead slow.....

If it isn't a 350, I'll look for a V6 Camry, V6 Accord, or may be an RSX-S (lots of mod available).

you serious? i'm sorry, but i'll be more than happy to sacrifice 2 seconds off 0-60 to drive a RWD Japan made premium brand car in IS250 rather than those two. as for the Accord V6 unless you get the 6 speed manual coupe the other variants all use the iVTEC V6 with VCM (cylinder shutdown feature), go to Accord board, they're complaining it's almost as slow as the I4 for only marginal mpg gain.

Agreed. A fact that not that many people realize that I came across when I was dead set on getting a 6-6 accord coupe...until i fell in love with the IS
