Picked up a 06 IS350
Hi all, I recently sold my 2000 GS400 and decided a 2006 IS350 would do the trick now. I sure did love that GS4 and I hope I'll love the IS just as much even though it's at the Augusta dealership having the valve springs replaced this week.
Now I just wish I had chosen a different user ID.

Disabling traction control in the 2006 IS350 -

That's probably the only nuance you need to learn. The 07+ IS350s have a traction off button that you can press and hold for 5 seconds to disable traction control. For the '06, you need to perform that "pedal dance."
Congratulations on the purchase.

Can I ask a dumb question? If I must do all of that to disable the traction control.... why the heck did they put a switch there? Sorry because I'm sure this has been discussed countless times but just my 2 cents.

To fully disable traction control, you have to do the "pedal dance" for the '06 model.
For the '07+ model, if you press the traction control switch once (and let go immediately), it disables the traction control only up to 30 MPH. With the '07+, though, if you hold the traction control button for 5 seconds, it fully disables traction control.
I actually might be wrong about "30 MPH" but it's certainly somewhere around that figure. It may be 40 MPH, or something else entirely. It's around 30-40 as far as I recall.
With traction control off, 0 to 60 = 4.9, 1/4 mile = 13.5 (Road and Track)
With traction control enabled, you add anywhere from .5 up to .9 seconds of time to your 0 to 60 figure (and 1/4 mile figure) according to Edmunds insideline or Car and Driver. That's pretty large.
I've also found that disabling traction control through 30 MPH isn't sufficient either. You'd intuitively think that this would work just fine, but it doesn't, at least according to my tests.
Subjectively, I could feel traction control bog the car down once it re-enabled at 30 MPH (or 40 MPH). Objectively, this added about .2 seconds on my 0 to 60 times.
Practically speaking, I actually do keep traction control on 99% of the time. I'm not really bothered by losing up to .9 seconds on 0 to 60 times because I don't go full WOT at every stop light. Having an '09, I do have the luxury to turn traction control off within 5 seconds while I'm at a stop, but I never do. Nevertheless, it's good to know if this sort of thing matters to you.

Actually, now that I think about it, one place where the ability to turn traction control off can matter is in the snow. There are times where having traction control on is more hurtful than helpful in the snow.

I totally agree, the other day I was easing my 06 350 into my garage, there was some snow on my driveway, and as soon as the rear tires hit a slippery part of snow, the trac control would kick in, and the car would just stop.. It was very frustrting since I have a tiny garage and couldn't exactly build up momentum to get past it. Servers me right I guess for having it out in the Winter with no winter tires, not doing that again.
