Synthetic oil is much better than blends. Blends are just slightly better than conventional and worth the extra to use full synthetic. Right now, my car is using Mobil 1 5W30 which was $8/quart. My next oil change would be with Valvoline SynPower 5W30 since Valvoline seems to better in my opinion when I used it before. Some people recommend 0W20 or 5W20, I think, for better gas mileage. The Lexus dealer where I live charges like $60 for conventional and $90 for synthetic. I just change my own oil. 4 quart jugs of synthetic oil at Advance Auto Parts is $20 each and filters are $5 at Sewell Parts. The gasket is also $1 at Sewell. So basically, $46 to do it myself.

Okay, here's the skinny on motor oils. Conventional oil is just that, a conventional and basic version of crude oil which has been refined to be suitable for motor oil. A Synthetic oil is not (as is commonly assumed) a man made equivelant, ie synthetic, version of motor oil. It is actually a crude oil which has been refined much more than a regular crude that would be used as motor oil. A synthetic blend is a crude oil which has been refined more than a conventional oil, but less than a full synthetic oil. In my opinion, either use synthetic or conventional. I don't see the value in synthetic blend. It looks like a deal compared to a full synthetic, but is significantly more expensive than conventional. Truth be told, it is better than conventional, but inferior to synthetic. I have a 2003 Accord, and I use conventional (Castrol 5W20). In my IS350, I use Mobil 1 FULL synthetic. Either it's worth it or it isn't...........

whatever you use just make sure you change your oil and filter every 5k miles and you will be fine. My preowned was using conventional for the first 70k and I got to see the engine when they did the valve recall -- the insides looked pristine. I still switched to full synthetic at my next change though cause its better for our cold winters up here...

2011's use 0w20. Still running what came from the factory. Will be using mobil 1 when i have to change it. Not sure if i will use oem filter or use a mobil 1 filter or the royal purple filter. The dealership close to me charges 110 for a full synthetic oil change

get it changed once a year right before winter and use full synthetic. The problem with not using your car that often is the oil slowly runs off of the internal parts so when you do start it, those parts are wearing more than someone who uses their car every day...
