Like the (internet famous) pipe bomb thread I did a couple of years ago, this is really common knowledge, but not a lot of pics of the super easy process are out there.
So here's a simple method that I used. I know there is other ways of doing this, but for shipping this is the smallest / lightest and one of the safest ways I have found on the net.
1. I put painters tape around the lip of my wheel to just keep of any kind of fine little scratches that might happen from when I go to put the cardboard over it.
2. Tape some bubble wrap over the lip part of your wheel. This isn't to really provide protection from lets say it falling or something, but really just to provide protection for when you go to put the cardboard over the wheel.
3. Then lay your wheel down over some cardboard that you grabbed from either a bike store/ liquor store/ etc. Grab a marker and trace around the outside of the tire.
4. Once you have traced around the wheel grab a box cutter and cut out the cardboard circle.
5. (this is if you want a little extra protection). I put a sort of "pre buffer" piece of cardboard I had in my volk boxes.
6. Now tape your cut out cardboard circle around the wheel like so. Repeat for the backside of the wheel, except there you don't have to worry about a lip or anything of that nature.
7. Now I wrapped some of that industrial packaging saran like wrap around the wheels several times.
8. Finally I taped up all around the saran like wrap with packaging tape.
