I don't remember where it's at, but there is a great thread on here somewhere, where a member shows a step by step on how he painted his calipers. My IS350 is Tungsten silver and my next "mod" will be to paint the calipers. I just haven't decided on whether they will be black or red. I think that black will be more subltle, but I can't help but think that the red will look better (without giving too much of the "tuner" effect).

PepBoys sells red and green engine paints. So you can as well paint your caliper these colors. Paining green may mean a sport car in Italy. Yellow color is associated with the taxis.

Well, I didn't want blue or red since that seems to be what everyone else is going for. Black or silver blends in too well and white gets too dirty. So my options were yellow or orange. My car is black and I'm planning to get black rims so the yellow calipers, gold in the future, makes good contrast.

About the loose lug nuts, that's the last thing I did since nothing else worked. I've read how lots of people tried it and it worked well. All I simply did was loosen the lug nuts by 5-6 turns on one wheel only. Back on into my ally, accelerate up to 20 MPH and slam on the brakes. ABS kicked in since I slid across the new snow that fell. I was hoping the rotor that was stopping would break apart from the rotating wheel but it didn't. So I only drove maybe 100 feet in drive and reverse a few times.

Wow, it was hard enough painting my calipers with the wheels off (because I'm a perfectionist). Can't imagine how big of a PITA it was for you. Came out nice from what I can tell though.

Take a deadblow hammer and hammer it from behind the wheel. Keep going at it until it comes loose.

Works everytime for me.

If there was a Hall of Fame category on CL, this would be a first ballot entry!

THIS.

I'm surprised a 'tire shop' couldn't get wheels off... Do they not have a hammer, or legs?

I remember in shop class in high school we'd just kick the tire first to crack it loose - if not hammer time!

Were you THAT anxious to paint your calipers? It def takes some dexterity to paint them and apply the decal with the wheel still on, but please don't drive around...in the snow....slamming on the brakes....with the lugs loose...ever again. Painting your calipers is NOT worth that risk.

Quick Reply: I painted my calipers yellow!
