Default How to take out the side roof rails?

For those that have done the vinyl black roof, did you see how your installer take out the side roof rail strip?

Pretty sure you just pull up gently on them. I've heard they're prone to breaking though, so be careful.

Thanks Brian. I got the OEM black 212 strips today. Both ends looks to be like clip on, and the whole middle section seems to slide on installation.

Anyone else got any answers?

they slide forward , start with the front slide it towards the front and eventually u can lift it upwards so that you dont break the weather strip itself ,once off you can just pull up and should come off till the end which slides off also

^ Thanks, but it seems you can't slide it forward. Do you lift up both ends first?

Anybody else?

Can you post a picture? I want to see what's under the roof rail strip.

I paid around $3x.xxUSD each.

can't you just lay the vinyl on top without taking it off?

from what i asked the service guy..
he said that there's clips holding them on.. and if you wanna remove them you basically have to break the clips and get new mounting clips..
i was curious to when i wanted to get my roof black to..

I have to take it off and put OEM 212 black strips on anyway.

Pictures of the underside roof rail strip.

You can see from the pictures the whole middle section consist of that slide on rubber stuff.

1 - Front, 2 - Back

sorry i was too late to tell you .. and no you dont need to break them to get it off, but they do slide just enough so that the clips can be removed just takes a little bit of time, but i guess the real best way is to get some type of plastic to wedge in the middle area to lift it up first then when you are at the ends you can slide them and unclip them

I had it removed twice because my roof wasn't vinyled properly the first time.
my clips didn't break. I think they just carefully pulled it upwards to take it off.
If you're planning to have it vinyled by professionals, then just go to Shinzowerks.
They'll take it off for you. But if you want them to do it properly, take off your shark fin first or else they'll just cut around the sharkfin and you'll see a bit of the white roof..
That's why I had to get it done a second time. Other than that, they do an awesome job.
