My oil changes at the dealership are 49.95, for parts and labor. And I think that itself is high.

Ok, if you were running a business with all the costs involved what do you think a fair price for an oil change would be? $10, $20, $30 .... ? $50 for oil/filter/labor + whatever profit he can squeeze out of that price seems very fair to me. If you think that is too high why are you driving a Lexus? Isn't that just an overpriced Toyota designed vehicle which surely can't be worth the price you paid? And why not do the change yourself and save the $30 or so over the price of the oil/filter?

I think labor prices varies from state to state
I went on a road trip last year in my friends honda
done an oil change in a ny dealer for about 40 something

when we got to arizona and got another oil change we came out a bill of 20....lol

For the peeps in cali and if your close to longo lexus. $72 bucks for an oil change if you guys didnt know. too lazy to do it myself. reasonable compared to oil changes in the hundreds IMO.

ive read so many horror stories about dealerships Messing up aftermarket wheels, scratching paint, taking things out they shouldnt be taking out i trust no dealership anymore. just do it myself and have some piece of mind. Im even debating if i want to take my car in for the recalls. I have aggressive fitment wheels, last thing i want is some service tech to curb them or something.

Thanks guys for all the responses. Honestly, i would do it myself but two things are stopping me 1) my Home owners association prohibits working on or washing your car at home (on my own property) 2) Its a CPO and i'd rather have Lexus do the service while its under warranty.

I'll try calling a couple dealerships and see what the labor rate is on an oil change. I'd rather just supply my own oil so i know whats going into the car.

For regular oil or for synthetic? Cuz that's about the normal price for a regular oil change, it would be cheap for synthetic.

I think they charge $125 because of all of the little additional "inspections" they do and the car wash they give you. It's really silly because all I want is a simple oil change with them noting my service record plain and simple.

Then ask for that.

At my dealer it's $150 for the "10k mile service" (which is just an oil change).

It's $50 if you ask for just an oil change.

Very funny.

That's completely different. There is no separate "cooking only" rate at Denny's is there??

The Lexus dealership DOES have a labor rate for any service. If i can bring in my own (and better IMO) oil and its at least $20 cheaper then what they are going to charge me..why not?

The first of several problems with your analogy is either way you'd be eating at Denny's...

Anyways.....

EP350, i called Longo Lexus. They charge about $92 before tax on a synthetic oil change with Mobil 1. If i do labor only they charge me ~$40 + tax.

Using my own parts would cost me $40.50 + 40 and tax so probably about $85
If they do everything themselves gonna be a bit over $100 @ $92 + tax...
So i save $15 using my own parts

I think what i'll do is just have them do the labor until i go through the 2 cases i already bought. After that i'll just fork over the extra $15

Longo's customer service is ridiculously nice btw

I have prepaid maint. so i dont have to worry about this yet but what oil have they been using on my car? I like the idea of bringing your own and have the dealer do it that way there is a record of the scheduled maint. I bought my SC430 and there were no oil change records for years but the owner said they did it at a small local place but I have to just take their word for it. I guess they could have saved receipts but lets say you do it yourself...what are you going to do save all the receipts from when you buy oil? Thats a PITA plus they still have to take your word for it when you say it went in that specific car. I think doing it at the dealer will eventually help with re-sale value but if your gonna ride the car into the ground it dosent really matter!
