Does anyone here bring their own parts to a Lexus dealer for an oil change on their 2IS? how much do they charge you?
Local dealer wants $125.xx before taxes for a synthetic oil change.![EEK!](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
I figure the 2IS takes 7 quarts of oil, got a couple cases of Mobil 1 synthetic from Costco a couple weeks ago with a coupon which comes out to about $5 a qt. Buying 10 oil filters and the 10 pack of washers from Sewell comes out to about $55 so thats $5.50 per oil change for that.
7 x $5 = $35 for 7 qts of oil
1 x $5.50 = $5.50 for oil filter + washer
TOTAL = $40.50
Unless the dealer is charging $85 + tax for oil change labor, its gotta be way cheaper doing it this way! lol
I'd take it to my buddy at Firestone, but i figure if the dealership will do it at an OK price for labor then i call still have the services show up on the Lexus owners site without having to manually input it and keep track of everything and i'll build a relationship with my local dealer. I prefer the Lexus dealer anyways cuz my car is still under CPO warranty aswell.
Any advice/tips/stories appreciated

125 is pretty steep for an oil change i used to always go when they had a coupon in the mail so the oil change was only 65 but i went to get mine done a couple weeks ago and they charged me 100 i was f that so i think ima just change my own oil from now on, you could always do it yourself there's a diy on the forums here somewhere if you need guidance

I did it on my last oil change (which is the first one after having this car)
bought Castro synthetic for a total of thirty something
went to the dealer and noted them i have my own oil
said something about my previous dealer over torqued something so these things are on my bill
-replaceable element, $9.40
-gasket, $2.62
-plug. w/head stra, $8.00
parts total= $20.02
Labor $33.30
so it added up about 50ish and plus tax
still cheaper than what ive been quoted a hundred-ish
after all if you had all your materials with you, it shouldn't be really expensive

do the oil change yourself and learn a thing or two. dealer mark-ups are ridiculous.
P.S. a simple oil change at a dealer should be somewhere around 69.95-79.95.
P.S.S. most, if not all, dealers will not install parts on your car that they did not purchase through the dealer themselves

I typically get charged 30 bucks to have them change my oil. This includes labor and a oil filter, I always bring my own synthetic oil in. Personally its a win win situtaion for me, 1 the car gets documented through lexus everytime the oil gets changed. If something gets messed up they are held accountable since they did the labor.
For example, they did a courtesy check of my air filters. They actually removed my air filter completely. I drove home which was about 10miles away and the whole time omw home i notice the engine being quite louder than its norm. Long story short i came back the addressed the issue.

What gasket are you refering to with the element?
I just picked up five elements from Sewell and it included a large gasket for the element canister, and a smaller gasket for im not sure of...is this a seperate gasket from these two?

Lets put it this way... do you want to get an oil change in a fancy "Lexus" environment with free drinks and coffee... or pay half the price, probably get it done faster, and go on your way...

I pay $50 at my Lexus dealer for oil change and filter ..... that's reasonable for me so I let them do it. I've had enough of crawling around under cars to change oil and filters in my lifetime. We are driving Lexus' so you know you are going to pay more than the normal price at a Manny, Moe and Jack's (Pepboys) type of place. $125 sounds a bit high but in high tax and high union wage states in might be in line, here in TX costs are lower.

I also supply my own oil and have the dealership do the actual change. I get my own oil because it's cheaper and I'll know exactly what's going into my car. Also, by having the dealer do the work it shows up on my service records, which will help me if/when I sell my car.
