Default Clunking and Knocking Under Car With New F-Sport Sway Bars...What Is It?

Hey guys,

So here's the story. I bought my new 2011 IS350 about a week an a half ago and traded in my 09' IS250 with the F-Sport package. Yesterday morning the dealer called me and asked if I had my original sway bars for the 09' because they were hearing some noises...I said no I didn't but I wouldn't mind trading my 2011 IS350 bars for the 09 IS250 bars that were on my old car...they said sounds good and we did the swap at the Lexus dealer. The car feels incredible now other than when I'm going over any bumps at low or high speeds there is some serious knocking and when making a left turn and taking load off the right side there is a constant clicking/clunking until it the turn is complete. I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm pretty sure the bars are the same between years and the models right? Could it be bushings? They were on my old car for about 22,000 miles without any problems. I didn't hear these noises on my 250...so I'm lost for ideas. I'm gonna get under the car tomorrow and check it out but I'd be curious to hear your guys' ideas. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

I'm on my cell phone, otherwise I'd be a much greater help. Go to my profile and look through the threads I've created. I HAD THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. I'll try to link it.

Thanks MiiK350...I'll check this out tomorrow when I get under the car. However I don't think this is it because the car still handles really well...feels MUCH tighter than before...there is just noise. Could the bushings be loose or are these bars not right for my year/car???

So what happened was one of the guys who installed them torqued the bolts down WAAAY too hard. I'm including a could pictures of what happened...luckily the bushing was still there. I look underneath and right away said..."ohhhhhhhhhh!!! this is what I was hearing!" haha. Anways...a reminder to not over-torque your *****!

So you solved the problem by removing that cap over the swaybars?

No - the bolt holding that cap had literally snapped from being over torqued as well as when it had snapped, the cap itself had bent as you can kind of tell from the photo. They replaced both caps and all four bolts and the dealer.

That looks like the black rubber bushing that came with the OEM bars. As I recall the F-Sport bars come with a fiber bushing that is gray to white in color.
BTW, your dealer seems to have at least one mechanic that's a real clod

I thought the same thing - but I checked the bushing with the sway bars I ordered from Sewell (that I'm sending back) and they're the same.

And ya, they told me they have one of the new used car techs put the bars on. WINNING!!!
