maybe but not all the time. I saw a member in the 3GS forum run too high of a wattage hid on his car and completely melted his harness to the bulb. Cost over 1k to just replace the wiring.
We're all giving you good advice based off previous experiences. you can take it for what its worth but in the end its your decision on what you want to do.

The story you are mentioning sounds very strange though.

If you are running the kit bulbs at 55w in your headlights then I bet if you open up your headlights and take apart your projectors you would see some burnt marks and bubbles on your reflector bowl. Kit bulbs burn hotter which is why I run oem Philips bulbs at 55w in my retro.
I will check it out and let you know. I am due for some work on my baby soon. Hopefully the body will be getting some mods soon as well, when it does I will let you know about the shape of my projector

The reason you're not getting the light output you want is because of the side mounted projectors. Plus the oem halogen projectors were designed for a shorter halogen bulb andnot a hid bulb. There is. Difference bit neligible since the side mounted system sucks. For better output retrofit projectors that are back loaded.

For me, with my Philips Ultinon 6000K for low beam, it's output is very good on its own including the rain conditions for its temp.
Currently did put HID Fog which seems to help a bit but not quite since it's not a projector as the beam just scatters. This will be changed soon as I have a HID Projector housing for the fogs which will come in to address this, then the beam will be super wide and see futher down the road more significantly.
