clear bra question -- car not new
Okay, before I ask, let it be known that I did indeed search, perused even, through CL threads on the topic. From what I've gathered, yes, its benefits outweigh the risks -- for those who have cars just off the lot or have recently resprayed. BUT..........
If one's bumper and front portion of the hood aren't in showroom condition, and do indeed have rock damage, but one wishes to prevent further damage, does the area need to be resprayed prior to installation? Or can the bra be installed an imperfect area without consequence? Other than seeing the existing paint chips through the plastic.
Insight, please!

If the chips won't bother you down the road, then they will be fine under the bra. If any are showing signs of rust, then you want to address them before covering with the bra. One product you might want to look into before installing the bra is Dr. Colourchip. This paint cures very quickly and blends in better with the factory paint than dealer touchup (especially on darker colours). Just paint on, wait a few minutes, then wipe off the area around the chip. You could probably get away with doing it a couple days before installing the clear bra.
The alternative is to respray then wait 30 days for curing before installing the bra during which time you probably won't want to drive your car in case it gets another chip.
I wish the person who owned my car before me had done this. There are a couple chips under the bra that bother me every time I wash but if I try to lift the bra, it will no longer stick and that section will have to be replaced.
