i wonder if the clear plastidip would do what you're lookin for? Here's a link to the benz forum. This guy used clear matte then a tint paint over it, but you can get a sense of the clear matte plasti-dip finish prior to tinting.

yup Home Depots here only carry black. Went to another hardware store - AceHardware - they carry a bunch of colors but they're also more expensive than just black. about $7.99 a can
