I don't understand, "20k left of warranty left"? Aside from grammatical errors, if the car has 48k miles on it, then it has 2k miles left on the factory warranty, not 20k. Maybe you're talking about the powertrain warranty, which goes to 70k?

I don't know what CAI or OG are, nor do I know the value of the rims, coilovers, and CAI. I CAN tell you that my 2007 IS350 with 56k miles on it and all options was only $24,000 and it was Certified, with the Lexus CPO warranty running for 3 years/up to 100k miles.

So if I ignore for a second the value of whatever aftermarket parts are on that car, given that my car had pretty much the same mileage but was CPO, which adds about $1000 to the price, I'd say your car should be priced somewhere between $23k and $24k ignoring mods. So is the value of all that aftermarket stuff worth $5000+?

My apologies for the abbreviations. CAI = Cold air intake, OG = original parts-wheels and tires, intake. The owner purchased an extended warranty good until 69,990 or 2013 whichever comes first. He claims the warranty is bumper to bumper. I too, am not sure what 20" Vossen CV1 wheels with Nitto Invo's run.

Thanks for your input.

Sounds like that's not a Lexus warranty then, it's a third-party? Because Lexus' warranties run until specific years and mileage intervals (like it would end at 70k, not 69,990).

If you haven't already, find out what the specific warranty company and policy are. Don't trust him that it's "bumper-to-bumper" - very few third-party warranties are comprehensive, they're usually inclusionary, meaning they list exactly what they cover. If it's not on the list, it's out of pocket for you.

Reply here with the company and policy, and maybe some CL members can provide input. My E55 had a third-party warranty and covered a lot of things, however it left out a few key components that failed commonly on E55's so those (exorbitant) repair costs were left to me.

If it is indeed a Lexus VSA warranty then you want to know what kind, I think there's Gold, Silver, and Platinum. If it's Platinum you should be set, because it's exclusionary - it covers everything except specifically listed items.

In any case, I don't think the aftermarket stuff's value is $5k+, so talk him down. Print out some comparable cars off AutoTrader or Cars.com to show him better prices.

Just my 2 cents i think it is a good deal. I got mine 07 lexus 44k miles stock for 28500. The vossen wheels are pretty expensive 2 - 4k, on top of this there are other mods that have been done to the car. If nothing mechanically wrong, and you like the mods on the car, I don't think it is a bad deal and I think there will be room to negotiate the price down.

But then ago, I got my car almost 18 months ago, and since the 07 model, there has been a series of changes to the IS line...so it is really your call.

The people above, it seems like you all got your ISs for a really nice deal lol.. did I get rip off?

Never pay asking price, lol! 30k is alot for an 07 regardless of the aftermarket parts. Id talk him down some more. Just my opinion.

I agree that the rims and other mods could be expensive but I still don't think they justify a $5,000+ premium. They might justify more like a $2,000 premium, which means you should pay closer to $26,500 or so.

I don't think you should walk away, I just think you need to get $2-3k off the asking price first, at least.

Thanks for all the replies and info thus far. He is the second owner of the car. Purchased from CarMax. The warranty was also purchased at CarMax so I guess I can take that with a grain of salt.

I looked at CarMax cars when I was buying mine, and the CarMax warranty is actually one of the best third-party warranty companies out there. It's billed as comprehensive I believe, but there's a $50 deductible.

So as far as the warranty goes, that's pretty good and should justify a slight premium on the car. But one of the reasons I avoided CarMax cars was that they are almost all previous fleet/lease cars and weren't well taken care of or were beat up a bit, especially the interior, so get a good look at it.

Pretty loaded car for a lease/fleet model, no? The interior shots from what he has shown me all look clean. I am torn between this and 2007 GS350 although the GS will take some work to get her to look like this one does.

Could have been a corporate lease, or of course if could have not been a lease/fleet model at all, not all their cars are. If it looks good, then I'm sure you're fine, and you've got the warranty. Again though I really do think it's priced too high, and I know CarMax doesn't haggle, so you might be out of luck on talking them down.

Well had bank pull info on it and he neglected to tell me that he is 3rd owner and that a accident was reported. His reply after I called him on it was that it was just a small crack in bumper and this was after I asked him many times about a clean CarFax.

On to the next one...
