Default OBD II Scanner to Reset ECU/Clear Codes

Have any of you experience with these?

Less then $40 at Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/ElmScan-Compac...pr_product_top

I mainly need it for resetting ecu and codes.

I got this off Amazon (I can no longer find it on Amazon, but it was about $40, so here's the link to the manufacturer's website): http://www.auteltech.com/ms409.htm

I wanted a scanner that I could have in my car and use anytime, on my car or anyone else's. The key things I found to look for in an OBD scanner are:

1) Cord length
2) Whether it needs to be plugged into a computer to do anything or not
3) Whether it has an internal database of code explanations or if it just gives you the code and you have to go search for it in a book
4) Whether it reads both generic and manufacturer-specific codes
5) Whether it can just read or also erase codes

The Autel scanner above has a long cord, gives a description of the codes (doesn't just give you the code and you have to go search for its meaning), it doesn't have to be connected to a computer (though it can be for updates), reads both types of codes, and can erase them as well.

It may not have all the diagnostic and information monitoring/tracking capabilities of the product you're looking at, but I much prefer having an all-in-one scanner instead of just a cord that you then have to hook up to a computer to do anything. That's not very convenient when you don't have a computer with you..

Just my thoughts. I'm very happy with the Autel.

Thanks for your input.

I see same brand but different model, would you suggest this one instead?

Thanks.

It's smaller and has fewer buttons than mine, but it looks like it has no less as far as functionality, so I'd recommend it.

If you mainly want to reset the ECU why spend $40 when pulling the ECU fuse is free?
