Should I really be surprised the dealership actually tried to screw me?

whatd you do during the 30 minutes where they eventually decided to honor what had been posted on their website?

I'm sorry I was laughing when you said that they need to give you the spark plugs to make sure which is sad, that means you don't trust your dealership. That is def. Bull**%# cause I asked that at my dealeship and its in the manual for 60K, and my dealership told me that its included in the service or it wouldn't be worth that $489 then it would be like $329 up here for a regular 5K with oil change, they tried to gain some money off you!

But for $489, the dealer may have decided to package things differently. The 60k service at my local dealer for your car ('06 is250) is $932 + tax and includes spark plugs, oil/filter, both air filters, brake fluid + a long inspection list.
I thought of that as well, but they quoted me $360 for having the spark plugs done alone.

Really just trying to explain how the fair thing to do would be to honor what's clearly on their website and how it'd be like false advertising if they didn't. It's almost as if they're completely unaware of what their own website states in regards to what's included in their services, which obviously isn't good if someone like myself pays attention.

You would be surprised at how often you do not get the parts they say they put in. It is not the Dealership but more the mechanic. If he can cut time here and there, he may. My friend's dad used to mark his parts before he would take his VW van n for servicing. He gets it back and he found out that the oil filter was still the same one that went in. They went back to the Dealer and in the end, the mechanic admitted it. He was let go for that....

^^ But would the issue potentially be any different by having it done by a Toyota dealership as opposed to a Lexus one?

They gave me the old spark plugs in the little boxes the new ones came in. The old ones look pretty old and used (obviously). Now whether or not this means that new ones are in my engine remain to be seen as I'll need to pull one out sometime this week to check. Hopefully it's not just in my head, but my idles feel a tiny bit smoother so that's a good sign.

My biggest fear whenever having someone else service my car is whether or not the tech did the work he claims he did. If changing the spark plugs in this car wasn't such a PITA I would've just done them myself.

That is why I go to an independent Lexus mechanic. Not only are they more personal and equally knowledgeable, they won't gouge you like Lexus will.

Most of those things can be done by yourself - very easily. Brake fluid and spark plugs shouldn't need to be changed until at least 100K, and that is even premature.

^^ Actually, brake fluid change is part of the 30k service.

Just want to make this clear for those reading this post and getting confused.

With a statement like this, you need to be clear whether you're stating something subjectively based on your opinion or whether you're stating something you know to be true, such as what Lexus states in their maintenance guidelines.

According to the official Lexus maintenance guidelines for the 2IS, brake fluid changes are recommended at 30K and then every subsequent 30K interval. Spark plugs are recommended at 60K and then every subsequent 60K interval.

These recommendations may not reflect the true life of brake fluid or spark plugs in your opinion or experience. However, only by following these guidelines can you be sure that your car is up-to-date with its Lexus-recommended maintenance and that it is in full compliance with the terms and conditions of any warranty you may have (factory, extended, third-party, or otherwise) as all warranty companies require you to follow manufacturer-recommended maintenance.
