Default How many miles till break in

Hey guys.. I've been driving my car pretty fast since I bought it a month ago. It has about 1100 miles on it..

Is it true that you should go easy on the car to break it in for the first few thousand miles or is it just a myth.. Some ppl say that I can ruin my engine for pushing the car too hard

Is any of this true

Tks

I heard the break-in period for an engine is the first 500 miles. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Check ur manual. I think I read something like 700 miles your should take it easy. That was like four years ago though.

if you're past 1k you're fine imo.

my dealer told me there is no break in period and not to worry about it. Friend also told me that the way they put together engines now that there isn't a need for a break in period.

There's a million opinions on this- but here's what I believe and roughly how I've broken engines in-

Mine told me the same thing, I just drive my car like how I normally drive.

There are a lot of different theories about this. Some people believe in babying the car for the 500-1k miles. Others believe in pushing the car hard the first 500-1k miles so the motor gets a work out. I personally believe in driving normally, but also pushing it a little so the car sees the whole RPM range during engine break in.

From Lexus

What does Lexus recommend for the engine break-in period?

The engine of your new Lexus vehicle is made with industry-leading precision and quality. As a result, the break-in procedures listed in the Owner's Manual for a brand-new Lexus are optional. While following these procedures may help to optimize engine performance and engine longevity over the life of the engine, these potential benefits are marginal compared to the benefits that result from ensuring that recommended maintenance is performed as scheduled.

Too late now - if the car needed breaking in, the damage is already done! So don't worry about it.

The car doesnt need to be broken in. Modern engines are broken in right away, before you get the car
