Default New Guy, got a couple questions

Hows it going guys,

I just picked up my 06 IS 350 yesterday, and I really love it, but I have a really annoying issue which seems to be common from what I have seen on the forum. My rear glass suddenly started rattling loud as hell today once the sun came out, I think I know why the guy sold it now because the noise is horrible. It looks like i need to remove the headliner and cut the tabs off of the rear windshield in order to get that problem taken care of, but from what I read on the forum that seems like a real PITA, and I really don't want to crease my headliner by trying to get at those clips.

So is it possible to get to those clips myself without damaging or creasing the headliner?

Also, it looks like I have the grinding on startup after the car has started. I found the huge thread on that topic and it looks like it costs about $1200 if the car is out of warranty, my 06 has 65000 miles, so am I still eligible to get that repaired under warranty? I bought the car from a private seller so does any of the factory warranty transfer over to me?

Couple pics of the car.

Congrats on the new pickup! The warranty should transfer. Powertrain is 5 year 70,000 miles I believe, so you can have the dealer look into the grinding at start up.However, you won't be able to get the tsb for the rattles cause your bumper to bumper expired. I would contact your local dealership to confirm.

Your warranty is out as far as I know, exterior I meant. I think the power train is what BlackFish8 said.

well then, that sucks... I guess I will just have to live with the occasional grinding. If anyone has a definitive answer on the headliner feel free to post it up

grinding should still be covered under the powertrain warranty. I would get it looked at ASAP before it expired. The creaks and rattles your SOL.

Powertrain is six years or 70,000 miles...whichever comes first.

All 2ISes are within 6 years still... (and will be for another couple months, at which point the earliest 06s will begin to time out past this)

So go get it fixed ASAP for free.

ok, so do they have to replicate it at the dealer, or will they just take my word for it? The reason i ask is that my closest dealer is two hours away, and i cant exactly afford to leave my car up there for a couple days. I am guessing this has to be done at a lexus dealer right? and not at a toyota dealership...?

i'd take it a toyota, see if they can diagnose it, if not make the drive to the lexus dealership. congrats on the car tho.

Yeah the grinding, from what I've read, is covered by the powertrain warranty, which you should still be under, so get to the dealer ASAP.

As far as replicating it, this is such a common problem and there's a TSIB for it that the dealer shouldn't require that you replicate it. Just explain it to him, and tell him it afflicts many 2IS and there should be a TSIB for it.

Call around to dealers nearby you to see if any offer free loaner service.

When I got the grinding fixed they had to replicate the issue. Took them about a week. They did provide me with a loaner car good luck!
