Default Caught dead with a fake or rather spend more? (wheels)

Been reading some other car forums, which I won't name, but some people seem to think it is okay to put on fake wheels. It even goes as far as calling companies that make "copies" of wheels fakes.

I know lots of factors can contribute to sporting fakes.

So, what is the mentality in the Lexus community? Would you sport some fakes on your car or would you rather buy what you could with the money you have even though it's not top line?

depends on the situation...most fakes are casts of wheels which weigh alot more...but i guess that does not matter on an is250 that you use to drive to work and back.

If you're referring to replicas, I wouldn't do it. There's a video somewhere on the forum showing how unreliable and possibly dangerous they can be.

You get what you pay for. I would stay away from the cheap replicas.

Nice vid clip explaining the diff. I'd never buy a knock off. Just wouldn't sit right in the back of my mind.

Another authentic vs rep question.

The way you word your question is confusing.

Would you sport some fakes on your car
So a replica I assume.

or would you rather buy what you could with the money you have even though it's not top line?
Isn't that also a replica?

Anywho, I have nothing against reps as long as you don't try to pass it off as the real deal, like slapping a decal on it.

I'd never spend $5k for wheels, but also I'd never buy some ebay brand wheels for dirt cheap. I'd rather use $2k for the wheels and the other $3k on a great vacation.

I would buy (and always have) replicas. Not because I can't afford the real ones, but mostly because I can't justify spending so much money on the real deal. To each their own though... just my 2 cents.

it really depends on what kind of material companies use. pretty much, wheels are "you get what you pay for."

fake wheels are another definition for replica's. 3rd party companies copy and imitate authentic wheels but use lower quality material.

when i buy a set of wheels, i look for quality. i could care less if classify them as fake/reps/copies/etc. as long as quality is good, i'm all for it.

Wheels should be authentic mainly just for build quality. You can buy replica other things to make up the cost (ie body kits)

first of all, just because wheels are replicas doesnt necessarily mean that they are gonna be terribly built...there are plenty of replicas out there that have been around for a while with a good reputation....with that said i have work wheels but i would rock a set of varrstoens anyday

Buy what u can afford. Do your reasearch about the wheel ur lookin at and the company that makes the wheels to see if they tend to bend or crack easily. I say if you have the means to buy origional and want to spend the extra $$$ then go for it. If you don't then don't lol. Don't matter really.
