Maybe not a necessary tidbit since we now all know that the key fob is gasketed, but when I put my phone through the washing machine, even after a thorough drying (left it in a hot car for a few days to dry out) it did not start back up.

Working in a lab at the time, I had an unlimited supply of deionized ("distilled") water, so on a whim, I filled a beaker with DI water, dropped the phone in and let it soak for a full day. Baked it in the car for another day or two and the phone worked again! I postulate that the salts and minerals in normal tap water were shorting out connections on the PCB, hence DI water (which I believe you can buy at your local drug store for pennies) would dissolve them away.

It's not a miracle these things still work after being subjected to water. Have you ever opened the inside of the fob? There is nothing to it. What's water going to do to the small circuit board as long as the water doesn't sit to corride anything it will be fine. The worst case scenerio is that you need a new battery.

Ha! I'm cracking up looking at all of your comments...bad puns and all! I seriously would have tossed them...keys/vpn fob/lexus fob if the water was "dirty" It still keeps replaying in my head (in slow motion mind you). I didn't even have time to yell, jump or even react at all. By the time I figured out what was flying through the air it had already landed in the toilet. Actually...it wasn't till I looked inside the toilet that I could actually believe the fact that my keys were actually in the feakin toilet!!! I was kinda stunned...but after about 3 or 4 for expletives...I did what anyone trying to save $250 would do...I dove right in and grabbed that puppy! There ain't no shame in this game!
