Default Technical Advice Needed - Iron Wear Spike

This is a summary of oil analysis from a 2006 4GR-FSE (IS 250). It was performed by Blackstone. The car has seen a change in use over the past year from a 35 mile per day interstate commute to a 2 mile per day intense Chicago downtown traffic commute. The annual mileage went from 15K/year to less than 5K. The oil was in the car for a year on the last one versus 4 months for all others. Look at the spike in Iron. Despite being the shortest distance (4,320), it has the highest ppm Fe. Copper also ticked up a little and Tin made its debut in this engine. Also, for the second time, the oil sheared out of viscosity, I don't know if this is relavent. When I changed the oil, I put Pennsoil Ultra 5W-20 in this time. Blackstone suggested that the additional iron wear is coming from increased upper end wear, possibly due to racing. I don't race in this car, and I don't even drive it hard, I commute, that's it. I get my fun by driving the **** out of my chipped GTI on the weekend and the iron numbers are not even this high. Any advice or insight would be appreciated. I extended the warranty, but I can't take it to the dealer and complain of increased iron wear.

Short trips where the engine never gets to run at operating temp are about the worst thing you can do to engine oil.

Change it every 3 months, with the cheapest oil you can find in the proper weight, regardless of mileage. That'd be my advice.

Yep, your stop-and-go and short commutes are greatly decreasing the longevity of the bearings.
