If you're not averse to buying remotely, you can try buying from another part of the country and have the car shipped to you. I recently purchased a 2007 IS350 in Peoria, IL. It had 17k miles and the dealer was asking $28k, to which I talked him down to $25.5k. I paid a local inspector to inspect the vehicle for me, which included over 200 photos, three videos (including one interior walkaround and one exterior walkaround - each about 10 minutes long and detailing his observations about the vehicle), and a full report and checklist of items. There are national inspection companies like CarChex and AiM Mobile Inspections, but I preferred to find a local company if one was available, because they seemed to be a little more thorough.
After I was satisfied from the inspection that the car was acceptable, I paid $700 to ship it to Georgia. So in the end, really the only extra cost I incurred was the cost of shipping, because even if the car was local I would have paid a mechanic to look over it anyway (granted, the remote inspector may have been a little more expensive than a local mechanic's inspection). The $700 was easily recouped in the lower price of the vehicle considering I was very specific about the configuration of the car I wanted (Smokey Granite Mica exterior, Sterling interior, navi, Mark Levinson, Lux or Sport packages, under 40k miles, under $28k) and there wasn't anything within a 500 mile radius that fit that description. Perhaps what was on my side was that I already had a working vehicle and the Lexus would have just been an upgrade for the sake of indulging myself. I wasn't pressed to find transportation and for that reason I was able to be patient and find the exact deal I wanted, and when I did, it did take several weeks from first phone call to arriving in my driveway. But I was able to find the exact car I wanted for a price that was satisfactory to me, and I could not be happier with my car.

Hello,
I'm glad to have found this forum...I'm thinking of buying a 2007 IS250 AWD with Navi @ 73K miles internet priced at $20493 at a dealership in Maryland...any thoughts or advice? Clean CarFax and AutoCheck but would this be risky/potentially much more expensive than $20K? Car was leased in Colorado and regularly serviced at Lexus dealership there -- lots of tire repairs and oil changes but the only maintenance listed was at 9K miles -- and then it magically made it out to Maryland. Would have liked to get a CPO but the ones around the DC area are too far out of my price range -- I can spend $23-24K max and I'd also be financing...they just dropped the price on this one $1K this morning and I do need a car sometime before I move to Miami in June...I guess I could also get one there but I would also like to see whether dealer financing might have better APR than what I currently have and have another week or so within the 14 day window for all those inquiries to count as one...also am not planning to buy unless I can get it off on my own and go to an independent mechanic to have it inspected -- that was super easy to do at another dealership but the reviews of this one are not great -- but the prices are better...any input would be greatly appreciated

I got my CPO, 08 IS350 w/ 32k for about $29k so $21k for an 07 w/ that many miles seems high. I live in socal though so there is an abundance of IS' around. Basic economics would point me to supply and demand in the more rural areas which is why the cars may be priced higher I suppose.

You can always check the Koons toyota.. or all the koons dealers since they can probably had a few IS non certified of course for decent prices when i was initially looking.
But also beware.. back then they had an advertised special of somthing like $1000 over the kbb value for any trade up to 9k or something like that. When i looked at an IS and asked for a trade in appraisal they guy gave me offered me 2k less then the KBB fair value. When I asked him about the ad, he said something like well if your serious about buying then I will appraise your car again.
