Sorry to receive an old thread but I just picked up an IS with the oldie green lighting. I have never soldered before so I was wondering if anyone knows of any good local shops that can tackel this led swap out?? Any insight would help
I read someone said there is a shop that does it for Subarus, sorry but I cannot recall. If you practice a little and watch some soldering guides, it isn't too hard with the ground work laid out by previous members of this thread..

We can do any LED conversions "in car", but we are about an hour north of Chicago.
The other option is that you just send in the parts you want changed to a different color - www.taninautoelectronix.com
Hey guys, I just finished soldering all the leds in my car which turned out great except the radio and climate control turned out really bright and aren't dimmable. Any idea how I can fix this? I noticed the radio leds are in pairs, should I try removing one? Or swap out a resistor?
Great video, sinister2c!
Someone on the forum told me about the hot air gun after I had already completed my blue LED project with a soldering iron. I bought it afterwards and used it to clean up my previous work- what a time saver! I'm about to start my 3is bumper swap and spent a lot of time watching your videos on the transformation. I met up with benmunger, here in South Florida and saw his bumper conversion that he just finished--looks incredible.
Anyway, thanks again for the video tutorials- they really help all of us!
grevierx-
I'm not sure about the non-dimming issue but the radio LEDs are much smaller & brighter than the larger 1206 LEDs used in the majority of the Nav unit. I used a blue, translucent vinyl wrap on top of the smaller radio LEDs to darken them and maintain the blue color-
Good work there on yours. I got some other videos planned for the rest of the parts...probably more for showing how to open them than to do anything new.
I did order a new cluster to play with. I have a few videos planned on how to write the EEPROM for mileage correction on replacement clusters.
I just picked up a hot air soldering re-work station. I can't wait to play around with it and change out leds in various parts on my car and other projects. Should making soldering smd leds way easier than with a normal soldering iron that I'm used to.
I'll update once I get everything setup and taken apart.

Let's not forget Solder Paste. You dab it on the pads, set the component in the paste, heat with hot air gun and the parts snap align into place perfectly centered on the pads and Walla! DONE!
