This is slightly off-topic but your comment made me think about it. What kinds of prices/discounts were they giving the 2010 GTs away for? I ask because I have to wonder what's going through the mind of people who bought 2010 GTs. They updated the styling in 2010 and I think made the Mustang far more attractive and more muscular/less bland. But they waited a year to do the powertrains. So those people who rushed out to buy the 2010 GTs got a better-looking car with 315 HP. They were probably ecstatic. Then the 2011 GT came out which was the same car but with 100 more HP, at 412. To add insult to injury, even the V6 in 2011 had 305 HP.
I would have been pissed if I'd bought a 2010 GT and then months later the exact same car came out with 100 more HP, UNLESS the price I paid for my 2010 was far less than what I'd have paid for the 2011 (this is what I don't know about).
This is why I feel bad when I see people driving refreshed (2010+) Mustangs with a GT emblem on the sides instead of 5.0...

Original poster here updating...
Ended up trading in the 2006 IS350 for a 2012 Mustang GT Premium automatic transmission. Black on black.
- Interior materials in the IS are slightly better, or "feel" better, like more "hefty." But the Mustang's isn't bad, better than what's in Camry's and Avalon's currently.
- Bad road conditions, Mustang feels better. It feels as if the Mustang is softly sprung, but firmly damped. So it wallows a bit on high speed bumps, whereas the IS was planted.
- But even with the "soft" suspension, corners can be taken faster than the IS because it doesn't feel like it. I would say roadholding is the same, just completely different feel.
- The leather seats are definitely more comfortable in the Mustang compared to the IS. I guess it's made for "obese americans."
- The Ford Sync "entertainment" system is top notch (voice recognition esp.) Didn't really know about it until started to play around with it. This is an area where Lexus doesn't have anything close.
- Of course the 5Liter V8 and even thought it's an auto, it's quite good. No "manual" shift mode, but I never really used the "M" mode in the IS unless wanted to hold a gear to accelerate or engine braking.
Cons:
- Suspension tuning in the IS is better. Bumps while cornering didn't really faze the IS (just front and rear f-sport sways.) Mustang skips a bit, but can easily power through them with some throttle.
- Steering feel is better on the IS. Even though the IS was a 2006 model without the "revised" steering feel on the later models, it's still better than the Mustangs.
That's pretty much it for the cons. Time will tell how it holds up. But so far, price vs performance vs features, Ford did a good job.
The IS wasn't without it's issues either, but it never did break down.
- Start up cam gear grind; fixed under warranty
- All the little TSB's throughout the years: fuel line, rear brake caliper, brake override, etc.
- Dash and tach needle LED's went dead, $1200 part out of warranty. $200 ebay part.
