You mean the brake pedal recall where they put clips down for the floor mats?!? I had that same thing happen in my '97 Jeep Wrangler. Guess what I did? Pulled the floor mats back. No recall needed....

I agree Ford quality is much improved from the "How soon will it catch on fire?" quality of the 90s and early 2000s...

But I've yet to see Ford beat Lexus in any survey I've seen.

For example:

http://businesscenter.jdpower.com/ne...spx?ID=2011029

Lexus at #1, just a tick below #2.

Ford is 12th.

(Toyota was 5th BTW)

Lexus has been in first place the majority of years it has existed in this measure BTW... and generally in second the few years it missed #1.

That's the vehicle dependability study (ie long term reliability)

Here's the initial quality one-

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/17/j...-lead-imports/

Lexus still ahead of Ford (though much closer than the long-term reliability data)

This is impressive. Makes me think about checking out the GT500 before I look for an IS-F in a few months.

They've got GT premiums at the dealer next to my house for 32k....

I agree to each their own for sure. But I come from that line of thinking I suppose..

I've owned...
1988 Mustang Coupe
1997 Cobra
1995 Z28
1991 Mustang LX Hatch
1999 Z28
2003 Lightning
2002 TA WS6

then..
Audi S4
IS350

So I guess I've always been more of a domestic guy. The worst quality car I've owned by far was the S4. It really bugs me you can do nothing to the IS350 to gain more power when the engine does not seem maximized. It also bugs me that a lot of ppl treat their Lexus like hondas. lol

I agree, the import vs. domestic debate is worthless; it depends on what you're looking for and what you're comparing.

ZR1 vs. GTR is an interesting one. I think I'd take the GTR - build and materials quality on Corvettes has never been better than subpar. Plus with a that much power and performance, AWD would be a benefit. Also GTRs are more rare and head-turning in general.

I don't know if i would say that. I've seen a lot of GT-R and I've never seen a ZR1 in person. Z06 all the time.. but a ZR1?

Also from what I've heard the fit and finish inside a GT-R leaves much to be desired. AWD is for wusses.

At 200-300 hp AWD is indeed for wusses

At >500 hp AWD is for being able to launch without needing at least drag radials

I say this as someone who has owned both 300+ and 500+ hp cars.

The 500 hp with RWD was fun, but lower gears were f'ing useless on the street with legal tires.

I too have owned a 500+hp WS-6 so I know what you mean. The ZR-1 is a different beast. I've seen people running 10.7s on street tires.

and with AWD they'd be faster.

The ZR1 is an amazing car, but physics is physics...

http://www.insideline.com/chevrolet/...vette-zr1.html

Even with the gigantic meats bolted to the backside, the ZR1 will be what is euphemistically called "traction limited." In other words, all that power just goes up into expensive smoke when you try to lay the power down.
It goes on to describe the really cool auto-adjusting shocks for launching... but those only help so much. It launches great for a 2WD vehicle. But.

Drop it in first, rev it up, dump the clutch. You're not launching like an AWD car. You're blowing the tires off the thing.

It even has a high end launch control system because of this problem.

How good is it?

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/4287262

One piece of standard tech that only a few have discussed thus far is the ZR1's launch control. The system automatically limits engine torque to keep the rear tires hooked up...

We start our runs with launch control engaged, to test its effectiveness. From a standstill, we raise the blown V8's idle to an even 3000 rpm and sidestep the clutch. The tires let out a muffled screech and immediately spin. But right at that instant, we feel the engine soften its output as the launch-control computer does its thing. After perhaps a few dozen feet, the tires regain traction again and the computer releases all the ponies. We're off.
In other words- he spun the tires AND the engine pulled back power to finally make it hook.

An AWD car would've just taken off.

Believe me, I'm the biggest hater of AWD around on 99% of the cars on the road... it's an unneeded pile of extra weight and drivetrain loss for all the 200-300 hp drivers around killing mileage AND performance to no benefit.

But north of 500 hp it really does help.

If you have that itch for power then get it. I had an 03 mustang cobra before my is350 and its a different world. Yeah your not getting all the "luxury" aspects, but it is sooo much more fun to drive. Then again, my cobra was pushing 630rwhp...but the new GT's have a great engine that can be easily modded. If your sick of the Lex get the stang i dont think you'll regret it. Plus, exhaust on a mustang sounds better than pretty much any other domestic maybe besides certain vettes..
