For your benefit, I paid 28k in 2008, CPO recertified or whatever, but I gave up that for a grand off, for my '06, with less than 24k miles. It was easily the best condition I could find in the area.

Try and appraise it at Edmunds.com, they're pretty close to what people are paying for used cars.

1 1/2 year ago I was trying to sell my IS350, with 3x more than your mileage, and they were offering 25k to trade in. I end up not do the trade because I didn't think I was able to really afford a M5....

GLWS and family. btw, maybe you should bring it to some local chinese dealer as I'm sure they will buy your ride a bit more than car max. IS is still a good reliable car and it will be easier for them to sell, so you should get good price really good.

In any case, one point on the above - in selling my last car, I found pretty much for every one of their first offers, every dealer quoted about exactly what CarMax offered me. This shouldn't be surprising, since these days so much data is centralized and available that all these places use a lot of the same data and methodologies. In some cases when I'd go to a dealer to ask them to appraise my car, they told me to go down the street to CarMax since their offer would be the same.
That's just for first offers, however. After that, dealers are much more willing to work with you on the trade-in amount (read: pay you more) if you negotiate well and make it in their best interests (for example, if you're also buying a car from them that's more expensive, if you're financing, etc). So don't be put off when a dealer quotes you the lowball amount CarMax does - you just need to start your negotiation from there.
