Exclamation Painting engine covers

Anyone done this? I've been kind of leaning towards painting the covers (L,R,F) with some kind of high temperature paint.

Rice or not?

I had mine painted cause it was scratched up from getting stepped on upside down on concrete....dont ask.

Anyway, it looks better than just the nasty black manifold and wire looms without it. I dunno, it''s up to you. Mine was out of necessity and lack of funds, but I do plan on getting carbon fiber later too.

haha CF is nice but $500+ for a set is a little much for engine dress up. What color did you paint it? I was originally thinking about painting red but now just a gloss black.

Ive done a few, Acura, GS, IS... and i just used regular automotive paint i.e. paint and body shop paint (Sikkens Paint) then just put a good coat of clear on them. Never had any problems from them.

Here's a nice DIY I found:

http://tl.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=724361
http://www.nissanversaforums.com/how...ine-cover.html with pictures

Basics:

Remove all the parts
wash
sand with 800 lightly unless you want it glass smooth
wipe with IPA or prepsol
spray with primer for plastic adhesion
I used Caliper paint for the gold and engine paint for the grey
Spray light coats 10 min apart. I did 4 coats.
Let dry over nite
Install

Just remember when you remove them next time the parts will flex .. the paint won't.

Don't bother with high temperature paint. If it was that hot, the plastic would melt.

Get paint made for plastic.

That paint job looks great. It has that deep wet look to it.

what works really well is the paint made for RC car bodies Never done an engine cover but used it plenty of times on other plastic/interior parts that may flex.
