Question Mounting OEM Backup Camera to NON-backup Camera Trunk?

Hey all,

Just have a question, for those with Nav/Back Up Cameras who have gotten a Carbon Fiber trunk, or maybe even those who have decided to equip their non navi car with nav, and OEM back up camera. What was the process include exactly? Obviously some drilling, or cutting but do you mind sharing exactly?

Thanks!

Don't really know, but my trunk already had holes for that.

Did you do the navi conversion? I would love to figure out how to put a cam in my non-nav.

I didn't have navi and I bought the Fly Audio head unit. I also purchased a back up camera. I had the rear panel drilled and had them wire it up into the trunk and then to the interior of the car. Finally going back into the head unit. If you want some pics of a rear view camera, a guy just posted his process in the Fly Audio section.

So from my understanding....

There are 2 PARTS to the trunk. There is the 1) trunk lid. 2) trunk molding (that has the emblems on it, and holds the license plate.

My question is, I know the trunk molding comes 2 different versions, (W/navi version, and W/O navi version) But does the trunk lid come that way as well? Do you know SFFD if they had to drill through both? Or just the front trunk molding?

Thanks!

Check out the pics of the panel removed. Maybe that'll help.

Exclusiv,

I just did the swap this past weekend and if it's a non backup camera trunk you're basically going to have to cut out the hole for the camera itself (you're going to be cutting metal.) I'm going to just have my local body shop do this. Other than that the back piece where your plate goes comes off and doesn't have to be swapped. Everything else is the same and even the harness is the same. The non backup camera harness still comes with the plug for the camera oddly enough.

Hope that helps.

So the actual trunk needs to be cut. Are you using the OEM backup camera? And the finishing molding (piece with emblems, and license plate) always HAS the cutout for the backup camera? Even on non backup camera cars? Thanks for the info!

Yes, the trunk panel needs to be cut. I used a camera I bought off eBay. It looks OEM and was about $40. It works nice.

I'm using the oem camera as well and no the back plate doesn't always have a hole for the camera. That is something you'll need to keep.

Did you sell your trunk? Is this why you're wondering?
