Default looking at an IS

Looking at an is250 6spd for my wife, 07, base with leather and sunroof. Anything I should know about these cars? Usual issues, quirks? Much appreciated.

I assume by 6 Speed, you mean manual. IS250 is also has an 6 Speed Auto.

Anyway, if you are thinking about the manual IS250, beware that the clutch assembly isn't the greatest. In fact, it's from a Tacoma so shifting is going to be a bit rough. You can upgrade to F-sport short shifter to make it better.

IS250 also suffers from a known issue of carbon build-up because of the direct injection design. Doing a quick search when you have the chance for TSB Technical Service Bulletins. Out of all the TSB, I think the carbon build-up is the most serious.

Yea it is a manual, from a Tacoma? Wow lol. How much would doing this TSB cost? This particular car is still under warranty, would it be covered you think?

TSBs are usually handled independently of any warranty, meaning they'd be covered even if the vehicle is out of warranty. However, there may be restrictions in the TSB itself. It would be best to call a local dealer and give them the TSB number, they'll give you more info.

I have an 06' IS 250 manual. I had the F Sport shifter installed because the throw felt excessively long. It's a bit rough on the shifting. Only if you really want the stick should you get it. Otherwise an auto is fine for your wife. There are the dust pad, carbon build up, brake fluid, pedal TSB and recall's on our cars. All can be fixed easily without cost out of your pocket.

My wife actually does want the stick (otherwise I would buy her a 2gen gs lol). She is "one of those people" lol:

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Dash rattle lol. Check for it!! Almost everyone it seems experiences this issue, the dash will make rattling/popping sounds. Its very annoying if/when you do get it. If the car is under warranty, they usually fix it no problem though.

This is incorrect... TSIBs, generally, are only covered under warranty. These are (relatively) minor issues that aren't generally safety problems (ie rear view mirrors vibrates too much with sunroof open... AUX jack whines with power applied... brakes produce too much dust... rough idle from carbon build up in a 250, etc...)

recalls on the other hand are covered regardless of warranty because they generally impact the safety of the car. (ie the valve spring recall on the 350 or the fuel pressure switch issue)

Two very different things.

^^ Oops, good point... when I hear TSB, I automatically think recall.
