Default Just bought 20" rims for my is350 but whats the rubbing noise?

Hello, so I went out and got me some 20"s lol. Very happy with the wheels and the way they look on my Starfire pearl is350. I noticed though, only when I make a sharp turn it makes this rubbing noise. My car is not lowered(yet). It seems like its rubbing against the back plastic piece thats right under the fender...i dont know what to call that piece, kinda like the mud guard?? I just want to make sure its nothing major.... and how exactly can I fix this problem. Thanks.

Fender liner.

It's nothing major if its rubbing. Some people take out the fender liner, most people just let it scrape

If you wanna fix the problems, there's different solutions for different set ups. Usually running smaller tires can help.

But since your riding on 20's, id say rubbing the fender liner is bound to happen!

Thank you for your reply. Initially I wanted to get 19"s but they didn't have anything I like and they said the 20"s were pretty much the same cost. So WTH. lol. Will this problem wear my tires out faster? Its too late to get smaller tires Can I shave down the fender liner?

As long as your not rubbing the fender liner all the time, i wouldn't really worry about the liners or the tires. You can shave/cut the fender liner if its scraping really bad, but otherwise just let it scrape away itself

A lot of members here will tell you, "if it aint rubbin, it aint right!"

No its not rubbing all the time. Just when I reverse and turn the wheel.... and when I make a sharp turn. It doesn't sound extremely bad, I'm just a bit worried that's all. Its also a new car to me even though its a 2009, so I kinda wanna stay away from the cutting and shaving but I think I might have too Thank you very much for the help.

Killa....sorry another question. So what happens if I lower my car. Will the rubbing be worse?

I have 20's and if you lower it can rub in different areas.

What size wheels do you have 20x9 or 20x9.5 20x10 and offsets etc?

What size tires are you running?

The inner portion you're rubbing now won't be that big of a deal because it's only on a full crank of the wheel does it rub/ It will wear away on it's own.
The area you have to worry more about is the front fenders and the rear quarter panel lips along the edge of it. You may need to have your rears rolled(that's what I did) or you can shave them to get maximum clearance.

Sounds like your only scraping when the wheel is turned. Are you sure its rubbing on the fender liner or is it rubbing against the actual fender lip itself? Might wanna get your fenders rolled, it will help. If you lower the car, i'm sure it will scrape a bit more.

A lot of fitment issues have to do with offset of your wheels too though.

If you know your wheel width(s) and offset(s) and your tire size(s) post em up and im sure someone can tell you why its rubbing (and probably where is rubbing too lol)

If you lower it, go with a high spring rate coilover and save yourself money ... I learned the hardway and now I'm going back to get a different set. (I have Megan EZ Streets right now). I basically annihilated my front bumper and fender because of this. I wouldn't say i'm super slammed but I'm like half an inch from tucking rim. And this is after I flared out all 4 fenders and basically grinned down everything I could in the front/rears. Camber + high spring rate is your friend if you decide to slam your car on 20's.

i went to 30 series tires in the front and not much rubbing then i took a heat gun to the liners and push them up no rubbing anymore and i got clearance for my eibach springs to clean up some wheel gap but i am waiting to get my fenders rolled first or at the same time as the drop.

Whats your spring rate on your current coils? How high of a spring rate are you going?

Killa, its rubbing on the liner. I know this because I had my brother slowly turn the wheel and drive a bit.... and I was standing there to inspect it. I guess its better that its rubbing on the liner and not the actual fender lip.

I already ordered the is250 awd Road Magnet springs. Got the is250 springs even though my car is a 350 rwd. Called the dealership and already confirmed the is250 awd springs is compatible with the 350 rwd car. The drop on the 250 is 2" all around and the 350 is 1.5f, 1.2r but I think I regret ordering the 250 ones. I need to cancel the order and get the 350 springs.
