Default Low oil light came on O.o?

Today on my way to work the Low oil light came on. After few seconds disappeared. I came back home and waited till the engine cooled down. Checked the oil level and to my suprise it was very low. When i did the oil change, about 4K miles ago i filled up with the correct amount of oil. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? i'm at 54K miles now. Should i go to a dealer and have them check that out, and in case if anything is wrong would that be covered under the powertrain warranty?

PS I also mentioned in another thread, about occasional white puff of white smoke coming out of exhaust when i floor the car.

Any help is appreciated.

If you are sure you filled up with the correct amount, logic will tell you something is wrong. You're losing oil, so either you're burning or leaking. I would take it to the dealer if I were you. Shouldn't be losing oil at 54k. Good luck!

yup...burning or leaking. Try laying down a fresh piece of cardboard under your car underneath the engine bay when you park it tonight. Check it when you wake up...or let it idle for a few min and see what you find. If there is nothing then you are probably burning oil and that should get checked out sooner rather than later.

You wouldn't be covered under the warranty if you're low on oil. It's on you!

Haven't seen any spills but i'll try that anyway.

I'm trying to figure out why there's low level of oil. It's not like the car has 200K on the clock and needs to be filled with oil every two weeks. Done that with my previous car.
I understand that the engine burns oil anyway but not from full to low level during only 4K miles.

You're down a quart to be exact. That's how much it takes for the sensor to go off if I'm not mistaken. I did this by measuring every bit of oil I put in when the sensor went off. It filled at one quart. It could be the 0w-30 but I've had that message pop up when I used 5w-30 as well.

^ I was at twice the amount your dipstick shows when I had the light come on. Check it when it's cold and after you've been driving it for some time to get a proper average. In any case take it to the dealer since you should still have powertrain warranty.
