Hey guys just FYI but for the 2011's:

1K service is basically an inspection on both 250/350 models.
5K service is oil/filter change only on the 350 (350 oil change is every 5K miles, 250 oil change is every 10K miles) and of course the wash for both models

so does these mean they are using synthetic in both models?

Not synthetic. If the dealership use synthetic, they would recommend a 10k+ interval not a 5000. Last time I asked, they said they use synthetic blend.

The 2011 IS250 uses a 0W-20 Synthetic Oil that provides a reduced cost of ownership along with other benefits. The intervals between oil changes on your IS have been extended from the conventional 6 months/5,000 miles to 12 months/10,000 miles under normal driving conditions. However, your “maintenance required” light will continue to illuminate every 5,000 miles as an important reminder that routine maintenance such as checking all fluid levels, checking tire pressure, and inspecting brakes should be performed and that is exactly what was completed today.

JM Lexus is one of the only luxury dealerships to have a multi million dollar Express Service department designed to quickly handle basic services while you wait. I’m glad to hear the wait time exceeded your expectation. During your next visit I’d encourage you to watch the process; basically each Lexus is brought to a lift where a team of 3 technicians, much like a Nascar Pit Crew, work combining speed and communication. Before your car leaves our group leader will sign off on the repairs made insuring a quality visit.

Anything else needed?

When I get my oil change done it takes about 45 minutes without a wash. If I were you I wouldn't let them wash my car cause I've heard of stories about them leaving scratches on your car. Thought you should know that since your car is new.

JM is a good dealer... they have actually streamlined their whole service process... when your car goes through Express... which im sure it did if you didnt sit with a service advisor, your car is done very fast! Believe me though.... i dont think anyone was intentionally "lying" to you...

PS- Request no wash... they put the car through machine washes... I cry for nice cars that are put through that torture... show some love! Wash it on the weekend!

I was told by my dealer this weekend that for my 2011 IS350 the 5000 mile service is a waste and that they will not change the oil...it is only every 10,000. I'm conflicted on this because even if it is a 10,000 mile drivetrain and I drive sanely, I still don't feel right about waiting that long. What do you guys think?

I think if using a good synthetic that unless you do severe duty driving changing every 10k miles is too often, not too long.

Under normal driving conditions any decent synthetic should be fine for 12-15k miles (though you might want a filter change halfway). A really good synthetic even longer.

Based on the UOAs I've seen even non-synthetic oil is still in decent shape after just 10k miles in the 2IS motor. Real synthetic should be fine.

The oil will be good for 10k for sure! That is how long it was designed to last. You can change it more often if you like(personal preference). The 10k is just the required maintenance. I personally keep my oil for 5-7k and than change it.

^ So even with the IS250, the dealer should use an actual synthetic oil for the change? Does Lexus use a "Lexus" oil or does each dealership use the oil of their choice?

I took mine in at 4800 miles, right at 6 months. They said they weren't going to change the oil. I said, "you want me to go an ENTIRE YEAR after buying my car without a single oil change?". Then basically insisted they change the oil. So, they gave me the 10k service free I don't care what a manual says or doesn't say, I am changing the oil at 5k/6months.

The guys at JM work pretty fast. I was skeptical about their work too but they do everything they tell you they did.
