Default Need advice on rim painting

Looking for experience and advice,

I had my rims painted locally and after a month I destroyed a tire and had to have all tires replaced--long story.

However the firestone place scratched up my rims pretty badly and they did pay for the full price to have them redone by the place that did them a month earlier. Easy to get my money from them, I am very happy with firestone. I am having them redone next week.

However, after inspection of the rims and the scratches, the paint seems to be able to be scratched off with my finger, which means it did not, or has not adhered well. in other parts in peeled off in chunks.

Is this because it was not long enough to cure, or did not get applied correctly, too thin, was not baked enough, etc?

Looking for opinons,

thanks

I think powder coating is the better option. It resists scratching better.

paint wont last very long especially on rims. its just no match against rocks and dirt. powdercoating is definitely a more durable option and looks much nicer.

powder coat is definitely the way to go for wheels. may be more expensive, but definitely worth it

As other said, for maximum durability, have it powder coated.

If you want to paint the wheels, make sure you prep the wheel really good and clean it like a ****. Then spray it was many coats, the more coats you do, the more layer of protection you have. How many coats are you painting the wheels with?

Probably wasn't prepped correctly. But either way, a well prepped and painted wheel still wont stand up as well as a powder coated wheel would. See if there's any places around you that do powdercoating.

Yep, though powder is tops...paint can till be great and last and be durable. Problem is the prep and processing sometimes doesn't always get done 100% correct to the book.

I had one of my Roja Fomula 7s repaired and re-sprayed due to an accident, and the place did an excellent job. No runs, paint-match was spot-on, almost better than new.

I would definitely be hitting back up that place that did it and say that this time around their job was sub-par at best. Ask to speak with the mgmt on duty and let them inspect the issues.

GL!
