Default 06' 350 Oil Leak

So I take my baby in Friday for a scheduled oil change, about an hour later the service rep. calls me and says they found an "excessive oil leak" and that I can't drive the vehicle.

She tells me that the oil leak is at the top of the engine. She spits out some technical jargon and said that they will have to remove the engine to get to the source of the leak to fix, and that I should not drive the car at this point.

I told her that there has been no oil leaking from under my car and I don't understand how it could be excessive without me noticing. I know there is no leak because I park in the garage and would see it on the floor...

I asked her if it could be related to the valve recall they did last year, because I did smell something burning after having that done but it was only intermittent, she asures me it was not related. She tells me it is going to be covered under my extended warranty though so I won't be out the $4K its going to cost to fix this.

I went ahead and told them to start the work since I have no reason not to trust this dealer. They have always been very helpful and pleasant to deal with, and I have also never had any problems (that I know of) with their service to my car.

Can any techs chime in on this and tell me your thoughts? How would the oil be leaking from the top and how would I not notice an "excessive oil leak"? I'm am really concerned about the fact that they are taking my engine out!!!

Thanks in advance for any input on this!

did you get the cam actuator tsib done?

it could happen if they did not put a gasket back in correctly.

I wouldnt worry to much about them having to work on the engine, just be happy its covered under warranty. When they did my valve spring recall they found my head gasket was leaking, and I had a bent valve. Before bringing the car in I had no idea anything was wrong. Lexus ended up keeping my car about 5 days total. They said that my 350 was the first they had seen with the head gasket leaking the way it was so they took pics and documented everything to send in to Lexus. It was kinda scary seeing the pics of how they had my baby yanked apart, but this was about 8 months/10,000 miles ago and I havent had any issues since. Engine has been running great, havent noticed any oil loss in between changes.

Glad it's being covered by warranty. Definitely post back when you find out what it is.

Update:

The leak was a front cover leak....not exactly sure what that means.

So I got my car back yesterday evening. Drove it home and parked it in the garage over night. Started it this morning, everything fine. Went to fuel up and then drove off to work, about a 30 minute drive. Everything still fine.

So I leave work today and the car won't start. It just made a clicking noise and then the Check VSC (?) light came on. I tried to jump it and it still wouldn't do anything. So Lexus sends a tech to my location and he jumps it and it starts. He is taking it back to the dealer to see what the problem is and they gave me a loaner.

Nothing was left on, no lights etc. Doors were locked when I got out there, so I know the door was not left open all day. The gas cap is tight. Per the paper work the dealer gave me after doing the oil change, the battery was testing fine.

SO what could have made my battery die like that?

Same thing happened to me. I took it in for an oil change. They told me they found an oil leak from the motor and would be covered under warranty. There is a TSIB for this leak in the 06'. I forgot what it's called. They dropped half the motor for this. I then had them install the F Sport short shifter and sway bars. I figured I might as well get something out of it. It was fine after that but had the VSC light come on after. I took it back and they cleared it. They said it was my aftermarket intake which I think is BS. I don't know why your car wouldn't start though.
