That gym sock smell is usually mold somewhere in the vents due to moisture, specially after running the ac on the coldest setting. If changing the filter doesn't work try this:

but if you want a cheaper route then: (use at your own risk)
1. purchase Lysol disinfectant spray
2. remove cabin filter
3. start up your vehicle and run the AC (recirculate)
4. spray Lysol little at a time into the area where the cabin filter was, until you can smell the sprays scent coming out of the vents. That should kill the mold and Gym sock smell.
