Default Where am I making a mistake?

Input please. Can't spring for the IS-F but looking at this 2011 IS350..

No Package Selected N/A
F Sport™ Performance Exhaust System [1][2] $1,470
F Sport™ Shock Absorber Set [1][2] $740
Rear spoiler $389
Wheel locks $73
F Sport™ 19-in x 8-in Forged Alloy Wheels, Front, Set of 2 [1][2][3] $998
F Sport™ Sway Bar Kit [1][2] $495
F Sport™ 19-in x 9-in Forged Alloy Wheels, Rear, Set of 2 [1][2][3] $1,198
F Sport™ Lowering Spring Set [1][2] $299
F Sport™ Under Chassis Brace [1][2] $375
F Sport™ Performance Air Intake [1][2][4] $455

I'm probably not going to be doing a lot of after market mods so Lexus mods are what I'm considering.

Would love the bi-Xenon's but not paying $5000 for the package to get them.

Bi-xenons are standard on the IS350 for 2011.

Buy all that stuff from Sewell Lexus. They're a vendor on here since youre a CL member they'll give you a discount.

The F Sport package like I'm getting is very nice, like $2500 option, doesn't come with the mods and is mostly an interior upgrade but really worth checking out...

Don't bother with springs and shocks, spend a couple hundred more and get coilovers.

I wouldn't bother getting all the accessories when buying the car. These are not installed from the factory which means the dealer is going to rip you big time for the installation (3 to 4x's the $). Actually, I've never even heard of a new IS being delivered with these accessories. They are mainly up on the Lexus website to get people's appetite wet.

Not only will you get the F-sport parts cheaper from sewell (quite a bit cheaper) you ought skip the brace entirely... unlike the sways it doesn't actually do anything for performance.

No need to pay "5000 dollars" for HIDs... even if they weren't, as noted, standard on the 2011 350 (first time for that) they'd only be like 2500ish as part of the Luxury package if you wanted the other options with it... or like 800ish as a standalone option.

+1 on skipping the F-Sport stuff at time of purchase and buying it later from Sewell. $495 for the sways is what every dealer I saw was charging, Sewell charges a few hundred less. As I understand buying those parts at time of purchase doesn't mean the car comes with them installed, the dealer ends up installing them, and you have to factor in what they'll charge for installation.

Wow, great info.

I will read more on Sewell but getting the parts at a discount leaves me with an install issue here in Tucson. Who can I trust to do it right and at a good price. More reading for me

Next stop is to go the 100 yards from where I work to the Lexus dealer to drive one. I previously owned a G35 Coupe (sport) and while the ISF is the dream, the IS350 is the reality.

Also, I see folks refer to their IS350 as an FSport. What makes it an FSport? What accessory/Add on makes it an FSport? I didn't see any FSport "package" in the custom builder, just a list of FSport "adds".

Thanks for the feedback and I will dig further in the forums.

One last thing....probably only a few months from 2012s coming out. Should I wait for 2012 or go 2011? Not much info on the 2012.

When I did an online comparison at Lexus site of IS350 and ISF it listed those lights as "optional" on the 350 and "standard" on F. Maybe it was the running lights or foglights it was talking about?

First thing- don't ever use the "build your own" option on the lexus website.

it won't show you what is possible- it will only show you what configs your local dealer usually gets.

Go here instead:

http://www.lexus.com/models/IS/features/pricing.html

that shows you everything that is available on a 2IS from the factory.

You'll see HIDs as standard there on the 350

The F-sport package listed there for $2440 is what folks are taking about as an "F-sport" car

Unfortunately for 2011 Lexus decided to drop the really nice Sport Package (which had virtually all the nice stuff from the luxury package PLUS the sport suspension and sport pedals) and replace it with an almost-entirely-appearance-only F-sport package (though you still get the sport suspension and pedals at least).

While some of the appearance stuff is nice, it means now you can't get the factory sport suspension if you also want all the nice extra luxury items like vented seats, the rain-sensing wipers, memory seats, auto tilt-dim side mirrors, etc.

Anyway, if you can afford to wait, you probably should... prices are sky high right now due to the inventory shortages caused by the japan earthquake.

Wait 3-6 months and that'll clear up... plus if there are any '11s left at that point you could get a pretty nice deal... even if you don't you'll likely pay less in 6 months for a 2012 than you would today for a 2011 due to the current production shortages.

Dealers should know the exact 2012 changes (I doubt they'll be significant- it's probably the last year of production for the 2IS, with 2013 being a new model) pretty shortly...

If I recall my own dealer had the "model changes" sheet in June or July for the new cars coming in late sept/early october, so I'd expect it to be similar.

Kurtz - thank you. Link saved in favorites. I figured there had to be more to the story. I think I'm going to wait out for the 2012s. Very excited about this purchase and want to get it right/smart. Thanks again to everyone's input.

IS350 + FSport + Intake = $43,563... not bad.

I am about as far away from a DIY person as you can get (sad, I know).

I was too, until I joined CL - it's a perfect way to get started. The 2IS FAQ thread has tons of great DIY write-ups. Using exclusively info on CL I've already done rear sway install, low beam HID bulbs replacement, parking lights replacement, grille replacement, front bumper removal and HID fog install.

what I would like to know is how common is Mark Levinson with no nav like Kurtz has?

I love nice audio but I hate having nav in a car. I get so frustrated with them that I feel like busting the screen. I've been tempted to throw those little tom tom units out the window on occasion too.

yes I have rage issues but only where those things are concerned I swear...

I would skip buying the Fsport shocks and spring and get some BC coilovers instead.

ML without nav is only available via special order (that's how I got mine).

I've seen I think 2 other such cars, ever, those were also special ordered.

I did it for exactly the reason you describe... I wasn't gonna pay $2500 for what is honestly a crap nav system when my $200 Garmin was vastly more capable and I already owned it.
